혼성어 형성에 대한 인지적 고찰

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to present that the formation of blends is the process reflecting cognitive properties of human being, rather than acheived arbitrarily and irregularly. In this respect, this paper explains several phenomena observed in the process of the formation of blends in terms of the tendency of maintaining the number of syllables. These phenomena are closely related to aspects of memory and the lexical information in human lexicon. Therefore, it is hard to define the status of blends in word-formation system. Rather, it is worthwhile to concentrate on the factors or purposes of forming and using blends. In this regard, this paper figures out that the formation of blends is the process satisfying three onomasiological motive: meaning interpretability, language economy, and wordhood.
