The purpose of this study was to find out effects of sports participation on adapting to school life.
The subjects of this study were selected by using systematic stratified cluster random sampling method among students of a coeducational in Suwon city (men 212, women 135).
One-way ANOVA was used to examine homogeneity of variance between groups, and Tukey test was performed to analyze pairs of means to see if there is a difference.
To test hypothesis according to adaptation to school life between groups divided by socio-demographically, and according to groups between participating and non-participating group, two-way ANOVA was conducted. Stastically significant differences was found only between participating and non- participating group. Thus, t-test was conducted using socio -demographic variables.
The results of this study was as follows.
First, there are partial differences in adaptation of school life according to socio-demographic grouping. Men are higher than women in only school class and school rule factor. Second year students are higher than first year students in only schoolmate relationship factor.
Second, students who participating in sports show higher adaptation to school life than someone who don not participate in sports.
Lastly, basketball ranked as 1st in 4 sub-factor of adaptation to school life, and group sport participators show higher adaptation to school life than individual sport participators.
