The Effects of the Emotional Intelligence Program on Enhancing Emotional Intelligence and Playfulness of

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of emotional intelligence program on emotional intelligence and if it influences to improve the playfulness of young children with low playfulness.
For this study, the following questions were studied.
First, is it possible to improve the emotional intelligence of young children with low playfulness through emotional intelligence program?
Second, is it possible to improve the playfulness of young children with low playfulness through emotional intelligence program?
Thirty-two children who are 7 years old and chosen from 4 classes of 2 preschools in Pusan , especially in the lower 30% of playfulness score in classes, served as this study. Playfulness score was measured by their own teachers. They were divided into a controlloed group children who didn't attend the emotional intelligence program and an experimental group who attend the emotional intelligence program.
The test instrument for playfulness was the CPS developed by Barnett(1991) for teachers, and 'Emotional Intelligence Rating Scale for Preschool Children' of Kim, Kyung-Hye(1998) was used to evaluate the levels of emotional intelligence of young children. This inventory was used in both pretest and posttest.
The emotional intelligence program was conducted by this researcher and an assistant teacher 16 sessionses(40 minutes per each session) for 8 weeks, twice a week.
T-test was used to test the effect of the emotional intelligence program on emotional intelligence and playfulness of young children with low playfulness between the two groups. For data analysis, SPSS 12.0 program for Windows was employed.
The findings of the study were as follows :
First, as a result of the study that was carried out to find out if the emotional intelligence program improves the emotional intelligence of young children with low playfulness, the experimental group(M=205.94) got higher average grade compared to the control group(M=156.25), And the gap between the two in that regard was significant(p<.001).
Accordingly, the emotional intelligence program had an positive effect on improving the emotional intelligence of young children with low playfulness.
Second, as a result of the study that was carried out to find out if the emotional intelligence program improves the playfulness of young children with low playfulness, the experimental group(M=77.00) got higher average grade compared to the control group(M=59.50). And the gap between the two in that regard was significant(p<.001).
Accordingly, the emotional intelligence program had an positive effect on improving the playfulness of young children with low playfulness.
In conclusion, the emotional intelligence program improves the emotional intelligence of young children with low playful and also the improved emotional intelligence influences the playfulness of young children so that it improves the playfulness of them effectively.
