This study is to identify the difficulty late childbearing mothers over 35 years old who are constantly increasing have by analyzing the conflicts they experience in the course of pregnancy and childbirth. The subjects of the study were 838 late childbearing mothers who lived in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi region, and they were compared with 207 normal childbearing mothers; the data of total 1045 mothers were collected through the method of survey.
In order to identify the conflicts the late childbearing mothers experience as they go through pregnancy and childbirth, the study developed questionnaires by dividing into psychological conflict, physical and health-related conflict, conflict on nurturing and family conflict based on the results from advanced research and interviews with the late childbearing mothers. The developed research instrument calculated the content validity by going through the process of expert's review.
The collected data were analyzed by SPSSWIN18.0, one-way ANOVA was conducted to compare the differences of conflicts related with pregnancy and childbirth regarding the types of childbirth, and Scheffe was tested for post individual verification.
The findings resulted from this study can be briefly suggested as follows:
Overall, it was found that conflicts over pregnancy and childbirth regarding the types of childbirth were higher in late childbearing mothers than normal ones.
First, in the result of the difference in ‘pregnancy-related’ conflicts among sub factors of psychological conflict regarding the types of childbirth, the group of ‘elderly primipara' had the highest degree of conflict; among sub factors of psychological conflicts, the 'childbirth-related' conflict also registered the highest in childbirth-related conflicts of the 'elderly primipara' group.
Second, in the result of the difference in 'mothers' physical and health-related conflict' among sub factors of physical and health-related conflict regarding the types of childbirth, it turned out that 'mothers' physical and health-related conflict' had no statistically significant difference regarding the types of childbirth. Also, in the analytical result of the difference in 'fetus and infant's physical and health-related conflict' among sub factors of physical conflicts, the conflict of the 'elderly primipara' group was the highest.
Third, among sub factors of nurturing-related conflicts, in the result of analysis of differences in 'children's growth and future-related conflict' regarding the types of childbirth, it was found out that the conflict of the 'elderly primipara' was the highest, and in the result of the difference in the 'conflict related with the relationship with children' regarding the types of childbirth among the sub factors of nurturing-related conflicts, the group of the conflict of the 'elderly primipara' was the highest. However, among the sub factors of nurturing-related conflicts regarding the types of childbirth, in the analytical result of the 'conflict of infant care and education for children,' the 'conflict of infant care and education for children' regarding the types of childbirth had no significant statistical difference.
Fourth, in the result of the analysis of the difference of the 'conflict in marital relations' among the sub factors of family conflicts regarding the types of childbirth, it was shown that the marital relations conflict of the group of 'elderly primipara' was the highest, and in the analysis of the 'conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law' among sub factors of family-related conflicts, the conflict of the group of 'elderly primipara' was the highest.
Fifth, in the result analyzing the difference in 'pregnancy-maintaining conflict' among the sub factors of economic conflicts regarding the types of childbirth, the conflict in the group of 'elderly primipara' was found to be the highest, and in the result of the difference of 'childbirth-related conflict' among the sub factors of the economic conflicts regarding the types of childbirth, the conflict in the group of the 'elderly primipara' was the highest.
