惠岡 崔漢綺의 氣學에 나타난 西學 受容과 變容에 관한 硏究

This study focus on transformation along with acceptance of western learning in terms of Hyegang’s cosmology and epistemology. When we go through Hyegang’s study under the influence of western learning, we can read the theme of ‘acceptance and transformation’. Though it is true that Hyegang actively accepted western learning in process of founding study of himself, but it is also true that he created transformation by his subjectification.
This may or may not be his intension, but in any cases, concerted factor contribute to create the transformation. Therefore, this study looks at ‘acceptance of western learning and its aspect of change’ from various angles and clarifies fundamental reason and detail aspect of transportation in Hyegang’s Pneumatics.
This study will set limits Hyegang's theory to cosmology and epistemology, and seek for direction of the study. In the main subject, <Ⅱ. Hyegang Choi Han-Ki's Pneumatics and Western theory of gravity> part corresponds 'cosmology', and 'epistemology' will be discussed in <Ⅲ. The effects of 『영언여작』in Choi Han-Ki's epistemology>, <Ⅳ. The comparison of epistemology between Hyegang and Thomas Aquinas>.

This study is composed of two different subject, but the main point stated above has application to both subjects. Above all things, what I want to clarify through this study is 'the reason of transformation'. I think the appearance of transformation shown in cosmology and epistemology finally return to one reason. If so, the reason of transformation get through to 'the something' that Hyegang wanted to insist. Therefore, this study will pay attention to aspect of transformation which arise from a point of contact between Hyegang and Western learning, make a diagnosis of advanced research and find a way regarding prospect of new discussion.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 혜강의 우주론과 인식론에 있어서 서학의 수용과 더불어 변용된 양상에 초점이 맞춰진다. 혜강이 서양사상의 영향을 입는 과정을 살펴보면 으레 공식처럼 대두되는 ‘수용과 변용’의 테마를 읽을 수 있는데, 혜강이 자신의 사상을 수립하는 과정에서 서학을 적극 수용한 것은 사실이지만 스스로의 주관적 해석에 의해 변용을 낳은 것 또한 사실이라 하겠다. 이는 혜강 스스로가 의도한 바에 의한 것이기도 하고, 더러는 서학의 해당 분야에 대한 이해의 부족에서 발생한 오해의 산물이기도 할 것이다. 그러나 어떤 경우라 할지라도 그와 같은 변용에는 일관된 원인이 작용하고 있다고 본다. 따라서 본 연구는 혜강의 기학에 나타나는 서학 수용과 변용의 양상을 다양한 관점에서 종합하고, 그 원인이 근본적으로 어디에 있으며 그로 인한 변용의 양상은 어떻게 드러나고 있는지를 밝혀가게 될 것이다.
본 연구에서는 혜강의 방대한 학문 가운데 우주론과 인식론에 범위를 한정하고 그 안에서 서학 수용의 양상과 동서비교, 향후 연구방향에 대한 전망과 모색 등이 이루어진다. 본론에서 우주론에 해당하는 내용은 <Ⅱ. 惠岡 崔漢綺의 기륜설과 서양의 중력이론>이며, 인식론에 관해서는 <Ⅲ. 惠岡 崔漢綺의 인식론에 나타난『靈言蠡勺』의 영향>과 <Ⅳ. 惠岡 崔漢綺와 토마스 아퀴나스의 認識論 比較>에서 논의된다.
본 연구는 각기 다른 두 개의 주제로 구성되어 있지만 위에서 제기한 문제는 두 개의 장 모두에 공통적으로 적용된다. 무엇보다도 필자가 본 연구를 통해 밝히고자 하는 것은 ‘변용의 원인’에 있다 하겠는데, 우주론과 인식론에서 나타나는 변용의 양상은 공통적으로 하나의 원인으로 귀착된다는 것이 필자의 생각이다. 그렇다고 할 때 변용의 원인은 곧 혜강이 끝까지 고수 하고자 했던 ‘그 무엇’과도 통한다.
따라서 본 연구는 혜강이 시종일관 고수했던 바와 서학의 만남이 이루어지는 접점에서 발생하는 변용의 양상에 주목할 것이며 그로부터 그동안에 이루어진 선행연구에 대한 진단과 향후 논의되어져야 할 새로운 담론의 지평을 모색하고자 한다.
