서병오 제화시(題畵詩) 연구 -자신의 그림에 쓴 창작시를 중심으로- = Study on the Paintings of Seo Byeong-oh with His Poem Written by Himself

Seokjae Seo Byeong-oh(1862-1936) was a painter, a calligrapher and a poet having three excellencies: poem·calligraphy·painting in modern Daegu. This study reveals the meanings of his works taking notes of Jahwajaseojasi(自畵自書自詩, one’s own paintings with one’s own poems written by one’s own calligraphy writing) works among Seo Byeong-oh’s paintings. It is a unique characteristics of the art of literary person among the cultural area of Chinese Character that the three―poems, writings, and paintings― elements are merged into one work, and a painting in the literary artist’s style is the final completion form.
Meantime, the awareness of Seo Byeong-oh as a painter and a calligrapher with the three talents-poetry, calligraphy writing and painting was not realized and so that his works, in which the three talents melted into one painting, were not given any attention. Most of his own writings written on the paintings by Seo Byeong-oh were done spontaneously on the spot when he made his works and so the feelings and mood of that time were in response with the poems, paintings and the brush strokes, and these made unique and astonishing sights in his paintings.
In this study, Seo Byeong-oh’s 15 paintings with his poem written by himself, focusing on the moment when he drew this kind of combination, were divided into four different categories, and the significance was looked at; a mood of everyday life hanging loose, gratitude and social intercourse, particular monuments, differential value added of the poetry, calligraphy writing, and painting works.
