The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of aquarobics and swimming on body composition, basic physical fitness and blood lipids of middle-aged women after aquarobics and swimming were performed three times a week for 8 weeks with 30 middle-aged women at 50s.
For measurements of body composition, weight, body fat ratio, skeletal muscle mass and BMI were measured using Inbody370 which was the equipment to measure body composition.
Muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, quick adaptation, agility and flexibility were measured using basic physical strength device of Biospace. In addition, total cholesterol in blood lipids, changes in blood glucose and hemoglobin were measured.
For measured each variable, mean difference test was performed in each group and each time point by using two-way ANOVA repeated measure. When interaction effect in each group and time point is shown, independent sample t-test in each time point and paired sample t-test in each group were performed. The statistical significance level (α) was set up as .05.
This study compared and analyzed the effects of aquarobics and swimming of middle-aged women on body composition, basic physical fitness and blood lipids. The following conclusions were obtained.

    1. Changes in body composition

Weight, skeletal muscle mass, BMI and percentage of body fat showed significant difference in each time point (p<.05). Interaction effects by groups and time point were not shown.

    2. Changes in basic physical fitness

Muscular strength showed significant difference by groups and time points (p<.05). The interaction effects by groups and time points were not shown. However, muscular endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance showed the significant difference in each time point (p<.05). Interaction effects by groups and time points were not shown.

In addition, quick adaptation and agility did not show any significant difference, but the interaction effects by groups and time points were shown (p<.05).

    3. Changes in blood lipids

Total cholesterol, blood glucose and hemoglobin showed the significant difference by time points (p <.05). However, interaction effects by groups and time points were not shown.
