상담자의 탈북주민 상담 경험에 대한 질적 연구 = Counselors` Experiences in Helping North Korean Refugees

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study investigated seven counselors` experiences in helping North Korean refugees. The interview data were analyzed using a phenomenological analysis. Counselors reported having been confused about their roles because they often had to perform roles of teacher, neighbor, and social worker. In helping the refugees, the counselors experienced loss of confidence because of the counseling contents and environment they were not familiar with. Also, they experienced burnout due to role conflicts, vicarious traumatization, and lack of supervision. However, they recognized their own biases about North Koreans, becoming more congruent and accepting about their experiences. As they became more sensitive to their own biases, they became advocates for North Korean refugees. Implications for counseling the refugees and counselor education are discussed.
