청소년 상담의 사전동의(Informed Consent)에 관한 고찰 = A review of informed consent in adolescent counseling

In recent, interest and demand for counseling services, specifically adolescent counseling services have rapidly increased. Nevertheless, there is only a paucity of research to investigate clients' rights. In particular, many counselors still do not assure informed consent—which is providing clients with detailed information of general procedures of counseling and asking their participation—for their clients. This research thus examines the concept, principles, and elements of informed consent and suggests how to design and implement its process in adolescent counseling settings. Furthermore, since we expect a gradual increase in demands for adolescent counseling services, it is not only important but also ethically imperative to facilitate the informed consent process so as to protect and respect adolescent clients' rights. More effective and professional, this ultimately helps adolescent clients take initiatives to engage in counseling services. A model of the informed consent this research develops is anticipated to be utilized in the adolescent counseling services.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 상담을 시작하기 전 상담과정 전반에 대한 정보를 전달하고 내담자의 참여 동의를 구하는 사전동의(informed consent)에 대한 윤리적 쟁점과 청소년상담 현장에서의 사전동의의 적용 방안을 살펴보았다. 내담자의 권리 및 자율성 존중의 측면에서 상담자들이 사전동의의 중요성을 인지하고 있는 것이 당연하지만 상담자-내담자 간의 독특한 관계에 기초하는 상담의 특성을 고려해볼 때 이를 어느 정도로 어떤 방식으로 실천할 것인가에 대해서는 다양한 견해가 있다. 특히, 상담동기가 부족한 청소년 내담자들을 대상으로 하는 청소년 상담에서는 사전동의에 대한 인식과 관점이 서로 상반되는 경향이 있다. 그러나, 사전동의는 청소년 상담에서도 내담자인 청소년의 권리를 존중한다는 기본적인 상담자의 윤리적 태도와 상담효과를 높이는 데 중요한 요인이 될 수 있다고 본다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 사전동의의 기본원리 및 구성요소를 살펴보고, 사전동의와 관련된 선행연구들을 개관한 다음, 청소년상담에서 사전동의가 갖는 의미와 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 사전동의모델을 제시하고, 이를 바탕으로 논의하고 결론을 내렸다.
