The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of mother's overprotection and adolescents’ anxiety and impulsiveness on friend relationship. Subject of this study consisted of 709 middle school students who have been living in Cheong ju city. Date were analyzed by frequency, percentage, Cronbach's α, t-test, F-test, Tukey post-hoc test, and correlation using SPSS 12.0 program. The test of model was done with analysis of correlation matrix in AMOS 7.0 program for path analysis.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, there were statistically significant differences in mother's over-control and over-interference, projective protection, and excessive expectation according to student’s gender and academic grades, and parent's educational level.
Second, there were statistically significant differences in anxiety and impulsiveness according to their gender, academic year, parent's educational level and family economic level.

Fifth, mother’s excessive expectations and excessive control had direct effects on male student’s negative friendship whereas mother's over-interference had a direct effect on negative friendship for female students.
Sixth, the anxiety of both male and female students were directly influenced by mother’s over-control and over-interference. Especially, male students’s anxiety was affected by mother's projective protection while female student’s anxiety was influenced by mother's excessive expectations.
Seventh, excessive control of mother had direct and indirect effects on both male and female’s impulsiveness.
Eighth, anxiety of both male and female students had a direct effect on impulsiveness, especially, anxiety of female students had a direct effect on positive friendship.
In conclusion, the findings of this study imply that mother’s over protection had critical impact on adolescents’ friendship as well as anxiety and impulsiveness and the results would be different according to their gender. To advance adolescents’ friendship, the counsellor should remember that the friend relationship would be influenced by their mother’s over protection.
