This study shows to propose the best practice as the solution about the problem of the net competition activity cause traditional instructions in elementary school. And it shows the influence on changing students' behaviors by the traditional instruction focused on the teaching for functioning with behavior training characteristics and by the best practice concreted over the teaching the volleyball game for understanding with the 'decision made training' characteristics through the volleyball class among net competition activities.
For this study, the game performance skills which are classes and the learning results of the best practice and the traditional instruction class used four factors - decision made, skill execution, support and adjust - which are related volleyball among seven factors of GPAI(The Game Performance Assessment Instrument) that has been presented by Oslin et al(1998). These factors were consulted and set up the standard with experts. After, each one class of the sixth grade of D elementary school in Boeun, Chung-buk applied the best practice and the traditional instruction in order to compare and analyze. During 7 times of class and 3 times game, the study material was collected through the video photographing of the game processes and classes. After collecting, the classes of volleyball and game videos analyzed students' behaviors from GPAI's point of view.
After analyzing, to find the reasons of their changes of behaviors researched the in-depth interview with the students and the quality study which analyzed lesson document materials.
For having validity of the study used triangulation by collecting and analyzing three kinds of the material such as the members check, the peer debriefing and class observation, in-depth interview and document analysis.
The difference of learning effects between the best practice and the traditional instruction through the above course reached the following results as below.
First, ‘decision made’ in the volleyball class is that the learners of the best practice developed higher level than those of the traditional instruction. The learners of the best practice in volleyball game, to considering the situation, the pass, toss, attacks such as what to do with a ball that was a creative decision.
Second, ‘skill execution’ in the volleyball class is that the learners of the best practice developed higher level than those of the traditional instruction. The learners of the best practice in volleyball game, rather than mere technical execution of the power to guide the direction and control of the opposing offense and defense technology, a comprehensive execution capabilities were excellent.
Third, ‘support’ in the volleyball class is that the learners of the best practice developed higher level than those of the traditional instruction. The learners of the best practice in volleyball game, directly related to engineering but important in team sports, 'no ball skills' actions like porting colleagues, decided to pursue the ball to the top, to cover attacks were outstanding.
Fourth, ‘adjust’ in the volleyball class is that the learners of the best practice developed higher level than those of the traditional instruction. The learners of the best practice in volleyball game, the other team's offense and defense, depending on the nature and the rational response was active.
Taking all of these things into accounts, the best practice is better than the traditional Instruction in the sportsmanship’s aspect. Sports is not a combination of the function consisting many small parts like in the traditional Instruction. The traditional Instruction with ‘bottom up’ method has a limit for pursuing intrinsic qualities. That’s why the class based on decision training is proper to accomplish the original aim of physical education, ‘formation of healthy life style’.
Also, the best practice was realized by concrete programs based on 'Teaching Game for Understanding' and 'Tactical games approach' in volleyball instruction.
