The purpose of this study was to investigate the body-shape and physical strength of the Taekwondo trainees and the non-Taekwondo trainees of Boys' Highschool Students.
The subjects were composed 160 students, that is, 60 students of Boys' Highschool Taekwondo trainees, 100 students of Boys' Highschool non-Taekwondo Trainees.
The variables of physical-strength were length (stature, the low leg, the upper leg), girth (bust, thigh, calf, upper arm, the lower arm, neck) and BMI (Body Mass Index).
The variables of physical-strength measurements were muscular power, agility, flexibility, balance-ability of the body, cardiomuscular endurance.
On the basis of the results of the study on the body-shape variables and physical-strength variables of two groups, the conclusion were drawn as follows.
1. For the physical shape in the length of the lower leg, the Taekwondo trainees were 96.13±2 8.16 and the non-Taekwondo trainees were 80.19 ±4.16, so the Taekwondo-trainee group was superior to the non-Taekwondo trainee group. But the stature, bust and upper leg length were similar in those body parts.
2. About the girth difference of the leg part in the physical-shape, of two groups, for the thigh, the non-Taekwondo trainee group was 55.63±5.13 and the Taekwondo trainee group was 52.6114.62. So the non-Taekwondo trainee group was superior to the Taekwondo trainee group. But for the calf, the Taekwondo trainee group was 37.02±3.07 and the non-Taekwondo trainee group was 35.97±2.66. So the Taekwondo trainee group was superior to the non-Taekwondo trainee groupin in the calf girth. And the upper arm, the lower arm, neck were similar.
3. Among the physical-shape, there was no outsatnding measurement difference in the body weight between two groups.
4. In the comparison of BMI (Body Mass Index) of the Taekwondo trainee group and the non-Taekwondo group, two groups were in almost same level (Taekwondo trainee group was 20.64±2.03, non-Taekwondo trainee group was 20.48±2.21).
5. In the physical-strength, the Taekwondo trainee group was superior to the non-Taekwondo trainee group; muscular power(p=.001), muscular endurance(p=.05), balance ability of the body(p=0.001), agility(p=0.001)
