This study proposes a hydraulic circuit for a MR damper that the semi-active and the active control can be applied. And, it presents a new method for obtaining reliable damping force-displacement, damping force-velocity data and hysteresis loop according to the applied currents. In order to get reliable data, getting yield shear stress data by experiment must be required for analysis. A hydraulic circuit model is proposed in this paper, that can be applied to analyze a MR damper without any assumptions. In this study, the viscosity effect of MR fluid can be considered. Analysis results by using the proposed hydraulic circuit are confirmed to the experimental results within acceptable tolerance. This hydraulic circuit model can be applied to the various MR dampers and systems.
