茶山 丁若鏞의 學制改革論 硏究 = (A) Study on Dasan's ideas of the educational system reform

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 18세기말에서 19세기초에 활동하면서 조선 후기 사회에 많은 영향을 끼친 대표적 실학자인 다산 정약용의 교육 개혁을 학제 중심으로 고찰하여 당시 교육의 실태와 국가의 대응을 조명하고 검토·해석해 봄으로써 그 과정과 특징이 보여주는 역사적 의의를 새롭게 구명하고자 하는 데 있다. 이 연구를 위하여 다산의 학제 개혁론을 <與猶堂全書>와 그에 관련된 선행 연구물들을 읽고, 1차 사료인 <經世遺表>를 중심으로 다산 사상의 체계화와 국가 개혁론을 요약하고, 학제 구성의 원리와 실제를 분석하고 구명하는 것으로 연구를 시작하였다.
이 연구를 통해서 밝혀진 내용을 요약해 보면 다음과 같다. 다산의 국가 개혁론 요지는 賢王과 유능한 관료를 중심으로 조직의 도덕성과 생산성을 높이고, 禮治와 法治의 조화로써 인륜이 실현되는 富國强兵을 이루는 것이다. 다산의 국가 체제 개혁을 살펴보면 중앙 행정기구의 개편, 고적제의 시행으로 행정 감독의 강화, 국가 재정 기반의 확충 강화, 이용감의 설치 등을 들 수 있다.
다산의 敎育論은 鄕三物을 교육함으로써 개인의 덕성인 六德의 실현과 개인의 인륜인 六行을 확립하려고 했다. 다산이 교육 목적으로 제기한 孝弟慈는 明德이며, 이를 실천함으로써 지극한 행동으로 이루어 내는 것을 明明德이라 하였다. 다산은 그 지극한 도리를 행함으로써 孝弟慈의 인륜 속에서 至善은 드러나며, 치자로서 至善에 이른 경지가 백성들을 지선의 경지·친함의 세계로 이끄는 길이며, 親民하는 길이라고 주장하였다. 교육은 明德, 즉 孝弟慈를 밝히는 일의 원리·지식·방법을 이해하고, 지극한 정성으로 인륜을 실천케 하며, 이것으로부터 성인의 道에 이르는 成己와 齊家, 治國인 成物을 이루어 내도록 스스로를 교육하는 자기교육에 전력케 하는 데 그 방향에 있는 것이다.
다산 학제론은 향삼물과 학제라는 두 측면을 통해 이해되어야 한다. 향삼물의 교육은 인격의 기초 덕목인 6덕과 修己治人의 원리인 6행을 실천하며, 6예와 도를 통하여 전문인이 되어 간다. 6덕 중에서 중화의 덕은 보편가치의 수기적 성취를 이룩하는 가장 기본적인 의의를 갖는다. 학제는 향삼물 교육의 대상인 자와 대상이 아닌자, 교육목표로서 육덕, 육행, 도예와 이를 구현하는 원리원칙을 제시하며, 학제에서 소학과 대학의 교육, 동몽, 학도, 선사의 교육으로 자세하게 나누어 조직할 수 있도록 하였다. 그러나 다산은 향삼물의 조화에서 학제의 구성과 운영에 대한 기본 원칙을 찾고 있음을 알 수 있다.
다산 교육 개혁 사상의 역사적 의의는 총체적인 국가 개혁의 시도와 애민정신의 가치 구현, 그리고 부국강병의 국력 신장을 꾀함으로써 근대 개화 사상의 계기가 되었고, 인간과 자연 및 인간과 인간의 조화로운 삶, 자연 및 개인과 더불어 사는 공동체 의식을 활성화하는 방안을 모색할 수 있을 것이라는 점이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to newly investigate the historical significance of Dasan's educational reform, by reviewing the reality of education and the government's response to his ideas. Dasan, Jeong Yak-yong, a typical realist had a great influence on the latter period of the Chosun society. To review his educational system reform, Jeong, Yak-yong's Kyung Se Yoo Pyo was summarized and several related materials were studied, and his national reform, the system of his thoughts and the reality and principles of education were summarized by the help of his masterpiece, Yoyudangjeonseo.
The contents of this study were as follows. Dasan suggested a national reform enhances organization's morality productivity thereby allowing the nation wealthy with strong military power.
The focus of Dasan's educational theory was made up of three things, and he wanted to fix six humanity orders as accomplishing six virtues, private goodness. Dasan's educational object is humanity that includes filial devotion, mercy and obvious virtue accomplished by practicing the virtues themselves. Dasan's 'education' means self-learning that helps us to comprehend principles, knowledge and method in managing one's own home, country and contributing for world peace. By practicing humanity with all their heart, self-building, sincerity, right heart, moral culture training, a man is able to support his family, govern a nation and work for peace of the world.
Dasan's educational theory can be understood by two way approaches comprehending desires for three things and educational system. A man can become an expert by practicing six virtues of human's basic moral principles courtesies and morality.
Dasan's educational system presents six virtues, six behaviors and moralnorms as educaaation principles. It also provides us with criteria on who is qualified to be educated. Dasan, however, found out the basic principles of organization and operation of educational system is possible through the harmonious desires for three things.
The historical significance of Dasan's educational idea is that it becomes a beginning of modern flowing idea as national reform, love of human spirit, wealthy nation and strong soldiers. Dasan's educational theory is likely to be alternatives for the weak points of modern education issues. It follows national rationality and considers a counter-plan. Modern significance of Dasan's Confucian education is that the harmonious life of human and nature tries to find a solution to a method that activates union-ship of nature and private. If Dasan's self-establishing and human control are applied to open education and the level-based learning in modern education, all students will be able to improve their self-independent learning abilities.
