위장된 자아의 표현 연구 : 본인 작품을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 2004년부터 2009년까지의 작가의 작품과 제 1회 개인전을 중심으로 연구하였으며, 위장된 자아의 표현에 있어서 배경이 된 페르소나의 측면에서 바라본 개인의 본질 파악과 표현 방법 연구 과정과 형태를 이야기하고자 한다.
어떤 사람이 다른 사람에게 비춰지는 모습이 반드시 그 사람의 진정한 모습일까 하는 작은 질문에서 시작된 작가의 작업은 크게 <The camouflaged rabbit_위장토끼>시리즈와 1회 개인전<Camouflaged selves_위장된 자아>로 나눠지며 두 파트로 나누어 말할 수 있는 작품들은 위장된 자아를 표현하기 위해 서로 개연성을 가지며 변화와 발전되었다. 그 과정에서의 개념적 내용과 표현 방법상의 과정과 형태가 본 논문에서 다루어지게 된다. 작품<The camouflaged rabbit_위장토끼>에서 토끼 모자를 쓰고 사람인지 토끼인지 ‘~인 척’ 하던 자아는 자의 혹은 타의로 위장하거나 위장된 모습을 표현한 것이며 이는 자신이 인지하는 것의 진실성에 대한 모호함과 의구심의 표현이었다. 작품<Camouflaged selves_위장된 자아>에서는 페르소나라는 개념적 접근과 함께 헤어스타일 연출이 개인의 내면을 표현하는 수단으로서 시대와 공간, 종교, 인종, 계급 등을 초월하여 인간의 욕망을 표출하기 위해 능동적이 역할을 담당해왔던 문화적 행위였다는 점에 주목하였고 그 결과로써 가면적인 얼굴 형태에 다양한 머리 형태를 연출하여 외면과 본질 사이에서 갈등하는 위장된 자아를 표현하였다. 또한 입체를 사진을 통해 평면화 시키고 평면화 된 얼굴 이미지에 부조 방식의 머리 형태를 덧붙임으로써 다시 3차원으로 만드는 제작 방식은 표현 기법에 있어서의 ‘위장’으로도 해석할 수 있을 것이다.
작가는 작품에서 그러한 가면과 머리 형태를 ‘위장된_Camouflaged'라고 표현하여 욕망의 표출과 내면적 자아의 성숙과 발전을 위해 끊임없이 노력하는 모습을 이야기 하고 있으며 이러한 작가의 작품이 작가 개인에게는 인격을 발전시키고 성장시키는 좋은 도구로써의 역할을 할 수 있을 것으로 기대함과 동시에 자기 충족에서 끝날 것이 아니라 본 논문의 연구과정을 통해 많은 사람들의 공감대를 형성하게 되기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis is based on my first solo exhibition and the artworks from 2004 to 2009. I’m dealing with the process and types of research on expression methods let alone the personal substances from the persona point of view.
My works, getting started from the small questions whether the appearance of a person should be a real one, are divided into two parts, <The camouflaged rabbit> and <Camouflaged selves>. Those series have been developed together to express the camouflaged self. Conceptual stories and the process and types in presenting methods will be discussed here. In the artwork <The camouflaged rabbit>, the pretending self is about the camouflaged or camouflaging selves. This is to express the ambiguity and suspiciousness. In the artwork <Camouflaged selves>, I tried to approach to the concept of persona while paying attention to the hair style that has been a cultural activities to express the human desire. As a result, I express the camouflaged self by adding a variety of hair styles to the face. Also I make the constructions flat by using the technology of photography and then glue hair relief to the face images to create constructions again. This technique may be considered as a camouflage in terms of expression method.
I consider the masks and hair styles in the artworks as ‘Camouflaged’to tell about the desire eruption and about the selves which labor to achieve self development and growth. I also think that the artworks should work as a tool of building up the personality of me as well as bring about the sympathy from the audience.
