잠재프로파일 분석을 이용한 성인 도박자의 심리적 특성과 문제도박 수준의 차이 = Latent Profile Analysis of Korean Adult Gamblers’ Psychological Characteristics and Their Differences in Levels of Problematic Gambling

The purposes of the study is to classify the psychological characteristics of gamblers using by latent profile analysis and to identify the consequences according toof the latent profiles. The subjects of the study are 473 adults gamblers who responded to a online survey about gambling patterns, basic psychological needs(BPNs), and mental health status(MHS) such as stress, depression, and anxiety. Using latent profile analysis known as the person-centered analysis, the results showed that psychological characteristics of gamblers were classified into three groups: ‘Lower MHS-BPNs’, ‘Middle MHS-BPNs’, and ‘Upper MHS-BPNs’. Also, the as outcome variable, levels of problematic gambling(KCPGI) showed significant differences across the latent profiles such as Problem gambling(M=11.393) on ‘Lower MHS-BPNs’, Moderate-risk gambling(M=4.277) on ‘Middle MHS-BPNs’ and Low-risk gambling (M=1.718) on ‘Upper MHS-BPNs’. Overcoming the limitations of variable-centered analysis in the existing studies, this study providesreveals new insights onin the psychological characteristics of gamblers and how different latent profiles of gamblers may be in theirdistinct levels of problematic gambling.
Finally, limitations of the study and future directions for research on gambling problems are discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 잠재프로파일 분석을 활용하여 성인 도박자의 심리적 특성을 분류하고, 잠재프로파일에 따른 결과를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 도박행동 패턴, 기본심리욕구, 및 스트레스, 우울, 불안과 같은 정신건강 수준에 대해 온라인 설문에 참여한 도박자 473명을 대상으로 하였다. 잠재프로파일 분석을 한 결과 성인 도박자의 심리적 특성은 크게 3가지 유형으로 나타났으며, ‘정신건강-심리욕구 저 집단’, ‘정신건강-심리욕구 중 집단’, ‘정신건강-심리욕구 고 집단’으로 나타났다. 또한, 결과변수인 문제도박 수준은 각 잠재프로파일에따라 유의하게 다른 차이를 보였으며, 정신건강-심리욕구 저 집단은 문제성 도박, 정신건강- 심리욕구 중 집단은 중위험 도박, 정신건강-심리욕구 고 집단은 저위험 도박 수준으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기존의 도박 문제에 대한 변인 중심의 연구의 한계를 극복하고, 도박자들의심리적 특성들과 그들의 다른 잠재프로파일에 따른 문제도박 수준의 차이에 대한 새로운 통찰을 제공하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 끝으로 본 연구의 한계와 향후 도박문제에 대한 연구방향에 대해서 제언하였다.
