수치심의 매개효과 검증

본 연구는 정서표현갈등이 여고생의 외로움, 그리고 수치심과 어떠한 관계가 있는지를 살펴보고, 정서표현갈등과 외로움 간의 관계에서 수치심의 매개효과를 검증해봄으로써 정서표현갈등과 외로움으로 부적응을 겪고 있는 이들에게 도움을 줄 수 있는 방법을 모색하고자 하는데 목적이 있다.
본 연구는 인천광역시 소재의 고등학교에 재학 중인 1, 2, 3학년 여학생 705명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다.
측정도구로 외로움 척도(UCLA-Loneliness Scale), 수치심 척도(Internalized Shame Scale : ISS), 정서표현갈등 척도(Ambivalence over Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire : AEQ) 를 사용하였다.
수집된 자료는 SPSS/WIN 12.0과 AMOS 4.0 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 기초분석으로써 각 척도의 하위변인에 대한 기술통계치와 척도의 신뢰도 분석을 실시하였고, 연구 변인들(정서표현갈등, 수치심, 외로움) 간의 관계를 파악하기 위해 상관분석을 실시하였다. 또한 구조방정식을 이용하여 수치심의 매개모형을 검증하였고 연구모형의 적합도와 잠재변인간 경로계수를 산출하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 정서표현갈등과 수치심 하위변인과의 상관관계를 보면 유의한 중간정도의 정적상관을 보였다. 또한 정서표현갈등과 외로움 하위변인과의 관계에서는 정서표현갈등과 친밀감부족이 중간정도의 정적상관을 나타냈고, 사회적 관계지지망 부족과 소속감 부족과는 낮은 정도의 정적상관을 나타냈다.
둘째, 모형검증 과정에서 수치심은 정서표현갈등과 외로움의 관계에서 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 정서표현갈등은 외로움에 직접적으로 영향을 미치기 보다는, 수치심을 통해 외로움에 영향을 주는 것으로 확인되었다.
본 연구는 여고생을 대상으로 정서표현갈등이 외로움에 미치는 영향에 있어서 수치심의 매개효과를 검증하였고, 여고생의 외로움을 설명하는 변인으로서 수치심을 새로이 추가하여 외로움을 더욱 더 다각적으로 이해할 수 있게 하였다는 데에 의의가 있다.

ABSTRACT

The Effect of Ambivalence over Emotional Expression on the Loneliness of Girls' High School Students

The purpose of this study was to see how emotional expressiveness was related to loneliness and shame among high school girls and test mediative effects of shame in relations between emotional expressiveness and loneliness to assist those who were suffering from maladaptation because of emotional expressiveness and loneliness.
A survey was conducted with 705 girls in tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades in a high school in Incheon.
The UCLA-Loneliness Scale, the Internalized Shame Scale (ISS), and the Ambivalence over Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire (AEQ) were used as measuring tools.
The SPSS/WIN 12.0 and AMOS 4.0 statistical program were used to perform reliability analysis of measures and descriptive statistics for sub-variables of each measure as basic analyses; correlation analysis was performed to determine relations among variables: emotional expressiveness, shame, loneliness. In addition, structural equation was employed to test a mediation model of shame and estimate suitability of the model and path coefficient among potential variables.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows:
First, there was significant positive correlation at a medium level between emotional expressiveness and sub-variables of shame. As for correlation between emotional expressiveness and sub-variables of loneliness, there was positive correlation at a medium level between emotional expressiveness and lack of intimacy and positive correlation at a low level between lack of social relations support network and lack of a sense of belonging.
Second, the test of the model showed that shame completely mediated relations between emotional expressiveness and loneliness. That is, it was found that emotional expressiveness affected loneliness through shame rather than directly affecting it.
This study is significant in that it tested mediative effects of shame in effects of emotional expressiveness on loneliness among high school girls and added a new variable of shame to explain their loneliness, which was made understandable on a more diversified basis.
