초등학교 교육에 대한 학부모 기대 분석 연구 = (A) study on parents' expectation of their children's elementary education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 초등학교 학부모들을 대상으로 학교교육에 대한 기대요구가 무엇인지 조사ㆍ분석하여 학교교육의 정상화를 위한 교육계획을 보다 더 잘 수립하고 실천하여 공교육인 학교교육의 질 향상에 기여하고자 하는 데 목적이 있다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 학부모들을 대상으로 다음을 조사ㆍ분석하였다. ①학교교육 목표에 대한 학부모 기대는 무엇인가? ②학교장의 학교경영에 대한 학부모 기대는 무엇인가? ③담임의 학급경영에 대한 학부모 기대는 무엇인가? ④학교시설 환경에 대한 학부모 기대는 무엇인가? ⑤생활지도에 대한 학부모 기대는 무엇인가? ⑥학교운영에 대한 학부모 참여요구는 무엇인가?본 연구의 수행을 위해서 수도권 소재 1개 초등학교의 학부모 1,003명을 대상으로 설문지 조사를 실시하였다. 설문결과는 개인적 배경변인인 성별, 학력별, SES별로 빈도에 따라 백분율(%)을 산출하였고, 개인적 배경변인에 따른 차이검증을 위하여 카이스퀘어()검증을 하였다. 본 연구의 모든 자료는 SPSS 12.0 프로그램을 이용하여 전산 통계처리 하였다. 이 연구에서 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다.첫째, 학부모들의 학교교육 목표에 대한 기대는 바른 인간을 육성하기 위한 인성교육에 중점을 두어야 한다고 하였고 본 연구 대상교의 교육에 대해 비교적 만족하는 것으로 나타났다.둘째, 학교장의 학교경영에 대해 학부모들은 학교장이 학교와 지역사회의 특성에 맞는 교육과정 운영 및 관리를 해주기 기대하였고 학교경영자로서 학교장은 훌륭한 인간성을 지닌 교사의 능력을 우선하여야 하며 인성교육에 중점을 둔 교육과정의 이행을 기대하였다. 또한 학부모가 바라는 이상적인 학교장 상은 교육자로서 품성과 자질을 갖춘 전문적인 능력이 높은 학교장을 기대하였다. 학교장의 학교경영에 대하여 비교적 만족한다고 답하였는데 이는 본 연구 대상 학교 학교장의 공개경영 원칙 경영방침과 관련이 있어 보인다.셋째, 담임의 학급경영에서 학부모가 기대하는 담임교사는 학생들의 인성교육을 중시하는 친절한 교사였고, 담임교사와는 한 학기에 한번 정도로 상담하기를 원하며 자녀의 소질계발 및 적성문제에 대하여 상담하기를 기대하였다. 또 대다수의 학부모들은 담임교사의 수업참관을 원하고 있으며 이는 교원평가와 함께 현장에서 늘 실행되어야 하는 과제이다. 학부모가 기대하는 학급 아동 수는 30명이었으며 국가는 이 기대에 어긋나지 않게 학급 아동 수 감소에 노력할 필요가 있다고 본다.넷째, 학부모의 교육시설 환경에 대한 기대는 자녀가 다니고 있는 학교교육시설에 대하여 비교적 만족하고 있으나 위생청결의 화장실 시설, 교실내부의 냉ㆍ난방시설의 부족을 들고 있었다. 학교발전기금에 대한 학부모들의 의견은 내 자녀에게 혜택이 온다면 협조하겠다고 하였으며, 이는 현재 단위학교 경영의 재정난에 도움이 될 수 있는 방향으로 국가에서 건전한 기부문화 조성에 많은 노력을 기울여야만 한다.다섯째, 학부모의 생활지도에 대한 기대는 자녀의 학교생활에 대해 잘 적응하고 있다고 인식하고 있었으나 학교에서의 자녀 행동에 대하여는 잘 모르고 있다고 답하는 차이점이 있었다. 또 생활태도가 나쁜 아동에 대하여 학부모는 교사가 학부모에게 알려 함께 지도하기를 기대하였다. 오늘 날 이혼가정의 급증, 핵가족화, 두 자녀 이하 키우기, 맞벌이 부부의 증가, 물질문명의 풍족, 컴퓨터게임 중독 현상 등으로 학교현장에서는 아동의 생활지도에 어려움이 급증하고 있으므로 학교는 학부모들과 협력하여 아동의 생활지도 문제해결에 노력하여야 한다.여섯째, 학교운영에 대한 학부모 참여로는 학교선택권, 양질의 교육을 요구할 권리, 학교교육 참여권에 대해 보통, 잘 모르고 있다고 답하였으며 참여 경험이 적음을 알 수 있었다. 학부모들은 학교교육 활동에 참여이유로 학부모와 교사가 협력하여야 자녀교육의 효과를 높일 수 있다고 하였다. 이에 학교장과 교사들은 학부모의 학교교육 참여방안을 모색하고 함께 협력하여 아동교육을 할 수 있도록 이끌어야만 한다. 또 학부모들의 학교운영에 대한 가장 큰 기대는 학교에서 자녀들이 안심하고 생활할 수 있기를 기대하였다. 이는 학부모로서는 당연한 요구와 기대이며 학교교육을 이끌어 가는 학교장과 교사들은 학부모의 자녀들이 안심하고 생활할 수 있는 학교 환경조성과 함께 질 높은 학교교육이 되도록 힘써야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to survey and analyze parents' expectation of their children's elementary education and thereupon, provide for the data useful to planning and implementation of an educational scheme for normalization of the public school education and improvement of its quality. For this purpose, those parents in 'G' city in the capital area were sampled. For this study, the following study points were set up: (1) What expectations do parents have of the school education goals?; (2) What do parents expect of principal's school administration?; (3) What expectations do parents have of teachers' classroom management?; (4) What do parents expect of the school facilities and environment?; (5) What expectations do parents have of teachers' guidance of children' life?; (6) What needs do parents have for their participation in school operation?In order to find answers to the above questions, parents were surveyed, and among them, 1,003 parents responded to the survey. The data collected from the survey were processed for frequency (%) analysis of parents' demographic variables (gender, academic background, SES) as well as for Chi-Square Test depending on the demographic variables, using the SPSS 12.0 program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows;First, most parents answered that school education should focus on development of children's desirable personality, while being satisfied with their children's public elementary education.Second, parents expected that the principal would operate and manage the curriculum suitable to the conditions of school and community, and would put priority on teachers' good personality. They expected to see the school education focused on the personality education. In addition, an ideal image of principal in view of parents was a professional armed with good personality and trait. Most of the parents were relatively much satisfied with principal's school administration, which seems to be attributable to the fact that the principal has endeavored to manage the school in a transparent way and without giving any financial burden to them.Third, parents expected teachers to emphasize the personality education in their classroom management, and they wanted to consult the teacher once a semester at least, particularly about development of their children's gift and aptitude. On the other hand, the majority of parents wanted to observe the classroom education, which must be a challenge for the public school education, together with assessment of teachers' performances. The number of a classroom desired by parents was 30, which suggests that the government is obliged to reduce the number of students per classroom.Fourth, parents were more or less satisfied with school facilities, but they pointed out the poor toilettes and in-classroom air conditioning facilities. Parents opined that they would be willing to contribute to a school development fund if their children should benefit from it, which suggests that the government is obliged to finance healthy educational programs more positively.Fifth, parents perceived that their children were adapting well to school life, but they were not much informed of their children's behaviors in school. Some parents with the children showing bad attitudes hoped that teachers would inform them of the attitudes, so that both of teachers and parents could guide the naughty children together. Since it becomes more and more difficult to guide children appropriately at school due to rapidly increasing divorces, nuclear families, fewer number of children per family, increasing working couples, mammonism, addition to computer games, etc., schools are requested to cooperate with parents to solve children's problems.Sixth, parents were not much or little informed of their rights to select schools, request for quality education and participate in school education, while they had not much participated in school education. Parents felt that their participation in school education would conduce to cooperation between parents and teachers for quality education. So, principal and teachers should join hands to explore the ways to encourage parents to participate in school education for a cooperative education of children. Above all, parents' highest expectation was a safe school environment. Since such an expectation is quite natural, principal and teachers are obliged to create a school environment where children can live a safe school life, receiving quality education.
