초등학교 고학년 아동의 과체중,비만 및 신체상만족도가 또래관계에 미치는 영향: 자존감의 매개효과를 중심으로 = Examining the Mediation Effect of Self-esteem on the Associations between Overweight, Obesity, Body Image Satisfaction, and Peer Relationships among Children in Upper Elementary School

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study is to examine how overweight, obesity, and body image satisfaction are associated with peer relationships and whether self-esteem mediates these associations for children in upper elementary school. Data from the 2010 Korean Survey on the Health of Youth and Children, administered by the National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI), was utilized for analysis. The sample consisted of 2,212 children in 4th, 5th, and 6th. grade. Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) analysis was utilized to examine the mediation model. The analytic results demonstrate a positive association between body image satisfaction and peer relationships. The results also show that the association between body image satisfaction and peer relationships is fully mediated by self-esteem. However, no significant direct or indirect effect of overweight or obesity on peer relationships was found in the analytic model. These findings suggest that body image satisfaction influences peer relationships through self-esteem for 4th-6th grade elementary school students. Theoretical and practical implications of these research findings are discussed.
