LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 is one of the cathode materials for high voltage lithium ion battery. In this study, we used two-step solid state method to improve electrochemical properties. Step-1 was synthesized in low temperature with reduction atmosphere. Then, the atmosphere was switched to oxygen to make spinel structure. It was effective in increasing initial capacity and cycle performance. Alternatively, the performance improvement was attempted through the surface modification. We used Carbon as an electro-conductor , Li2O-2B2O3 (LBO) as an ionic-conductor for coating. We tried to make by-conducting material with Carbon and LBO. These coatings were effective in improving rate and cycle properties without decrease of initial capacity. Each coating had similarly effect in the increase of cycle property. But in case of rate performance, LBO was most effective.
