The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a 4-week high-intensity resistance band training program on changes in maximal strength of the biceps brachii and triceps brachii in Taekwondo poomsae athletes. The participants were consisted of 22 male and female Taekwondo poomsae athletes. Upper extremity maximal strength was measured at three time points: before training, after 2 weeks of training, and after 4 weeks of training. Maximal strength was estimated by using Epley’s (1985) one-repetition maximum (1RM) prediction equation after 8RM testing. Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) using SPSS 30.0 was used for the analysis of collected data, and the level of statistical significance was set at α=.05. First, the maximal strength of the biceps brachii in both male and female athletes showed a continuous increase after the resistance band training program, with a statistically considerable improvement observed between 2 and 4 weeks of training. Second, the maximal strength of the triceps brachii in both male and female athletes increased continuously after the resistance band training program, with a statistically significant improvement observed between the pre-test and the 2-week measurement. Third, the 4-week high-intensity resistance band training program had a positive effect on improving the maximal strength of both the biceps brachii and triceps brachii in Taekwondo poomsae athletes. In conclusion, the 4-week high-intensity resistance band training program positively influenced upper extremity maximal strength in Taekwondo poomsae athletes. Therefore, this study may serve as fundamental data for improving Taekwondo poomsae performance and developing upper extremity strengthening programs.
