The objective of this study is to verify the perception and
differences of ballet major students in art high schools regarding the
professionalism of professional ballet dancers. To this end, the
questionnaire survey method was used on 304 Ballet majoring stu
dents in an art high school, and the collected data were statistically
    processed through SPSS Statistics 26.
Firstly, the results of the difference verification of general
characteristics (gender, grade, school region, previous education,
performance experience, choreography experience, number of
competition applications, competition award history) showed that the
difference by gender was significantly higher for males than females,
and there was no significant difference by grade. The difference by
school region showed a significant difference in psychological
expertise, and schools in Seoul showed a higher level of psychological
expertise than schools in Incheon and Gyeonggi regions. The difference by previous education showed a significant difference in all
expertise, and students who graduated from art middle schools
showed relatively higher levels of expertise. The difference by
performance experience showed that in general expertise and
functional and artistic expertise, the perception level of expertise was
higher in cases with more performance experience, and there was no
significant difference in psychological expertise according to post-hoc
verification results. The difference by choreography experience
showed a significant difference in general expertise, and the level of
functional and artistic expertise was higher for those with
choreography experience of two or more times. The difference based
on the number of competition applications showed significant variance
in overall expertise depending on the number of applications.
Functional and artistic expertise were significantly higher for those
who applied more than 11 times, compared to those who applied 10
times or less. Psychological expertise was significantly higher for
those who applied more than 20 times compared to those who applied
10 times or less. The difference based on competition awards showed
significant variance in overall expertise depending on the number of
awards. Those who received 5 awards or less showed the lowest
level of expertise, while those who received 16-19 awards showed the
highest level of functional and artistic expertise.
Secondly, the level of recognition of "functional expertise" is
generally considered to exceed average, with an average score of 3.48
    out of 5.
The level of recognition of "artistic expertise" shows a higher level
of recognition than functional expertise, with an average score of
3.66. The level of recognition of "psychological expertise" shows the
highest level of recognition with an average score of 4.63.
Thirdly, the elements of professional expertise of ballet dancers
were specified, with "body technique knowledge", "method
knowledge", "repertoire knowledge", and "repertoire experience" being
derived as sub-factors of "functional expertise." Sub-factors of
"artistic expertise" were derived as "artistic knowledge", "repertoire
experience", and "emotional expression experience," while sub-factors
of "psychological expertise" were derived as "personality and
    temperament."
To cultivate and develop these areas of expertise from a young
age, there is a need for educational programs to be developed in art
high schools. It is also necessary to research and develop expertise in
various fields related to dance, not only for ballet dancers but also
for dance educators, choreographers, and producers.
