This study proposes a hydraulic circuit model of MR damper. The MR damper can be semi-active and active control depending on the magnitude of applied current. In order to study the damping characteristics of the MR damper, the hydraulic circuit model is developed and the damping characteristics of the MR damper are studied by using the hydraulic circuit model. As a result, the damping force-displacement and the damping force-velocity data according to the viscosity and applied current are obtained.
The simulation results are compared with the experimental results and confirmed to be in good agreement. And the hydraulic circuit model proposed in this study can be applied to the research of damping characteristics of MR dampers. Furthermore, this study can be applied to the suspension device equipped with the MR damper and the research of ride comfort evaluation.
