The reduction of CO2 emission is an important issue for the sustainable production and processing of steel in EAF (Electric Arc Furnace). The way to decrease CO2 emissions can be achieved by reducing the use of electrical energy and by increasing the use of chemical energy. In general, the chemical energy of EAF can be improved by the heats of oxidation reaction and the carbon combustion. However, by adding carbon based materials into the molten steel, the carbon is not dissolved completely and floated to the slag layer due to low density. On the other hand, Al dross is a by-products of Al smelting process and it includes 27 mass% of metallic Al. In general, the oxidation heat of aluminium is three times higher than that of carbon. In the present study, the optimized fuel ratio of Al-dross was investigated by maximum dissolution ratio. After dissolution of fuel with optimized ratio, the temperature changes in molten steel was measured during oxygen blowing and simulated by the coupled reaction model.
