만해 한시 번역의 사례검토와 정본의 모색- 서정주, 김달진, 이원섭의 번역을 중심으로 - = Case Study on the Translation of Chinese Poems in Manhae and the Search for Complete Translation Text: Focusing on the Translations of Seo Jung-joo, Kim Dal-jin, and Lee Won-seop

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 만해 한시의 번역의 정본화를 위한 첫 작업으로서 기 번역사례를 점검하는데 초점을 맞춘다. 사실 『님의 침묵』의 위상에 가려져 만해가 남긴 다수의 한시는 소홀히 취급된 바가 없지 않았다. 하지만 만해한시는 만해의 시세계를 구축하고 있는 또 다른 영역임이 드러나고 있다. 따라서 그에 대한 감상과 연구의 토대가 되는 한시 번역이 요구된다고 하겠는데 본 논고에서는 서정주, 김달진, 이원섭의 기 번역에서 정본화의 실마리를 찾고자 했다. 서정주는 모국어의 변용의 능력을 맘껏 발휘해 자유시로 전환시키는 데 성공했으나 자기시화(自己詩化)의 정도가 심하다는 평에서 자유롭지 못하다. 김달진은 전통적 독법으로 안정감 있는 번역을 추구하고 있으나 전반적으로 현 시대 독자층을 위한 수정, 보완이 불가피하다 하겠다. 이원섭의 경우, 번역시 나름의 완성도를 갖추어야 한다는 소신이 도리어 만해한시의 본모습을 퇴색시키는 결과를 야기하였다. 상기 세 시인의 번역물로 말미암아 만해 한시의 진경이 드러난 것은 부인할 수 없다. 하지만 한계와 문제점이 확인되는 만큼 이들을 반면교사로 삼아 보다 바람직한 번역의 정본화 작업에 착수할 필요가 있다고 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article examines the previous translation case as the first work to formalize the translation of Manhae Chinese poetry. Several Chinese poems by Manhae were neglected because of the status of <Nim's Silence>. However, the Chinese poetry of Manhae is another area that builds Manhae’s poetry world. Therefore, translating Chinese poetry is necessary, which is the basis for appreciation and research on Chinese Poems in Manhae. In this discussion, we wanted to find a perfect clue to the translation of Chinese poetry in the translation of Seo Jung-ju, Kim Dal-jin, and Lee Won-seop. Seo Jeong-ju succeeded in converting his native tongue into free poetry by fully demonstrating his ability to transform native language. however, he is criticized because the degree of self-poetry is severe. Kim Dal-jin is pursuing a stable translation with a traditional reading. however, the translations of Kim Dal-jin is inevitable to revise and supplement it for readers of the current era. In the case of Lee Won-Seop, the belief that he should have his own level of completeness in translation interfered with the primary aspects of Manhae Han. The translations of the three poets undeniably reveal the true stories of Manhae Chinese poetry. However, as limitations and problems have been identified, they must be used as teachers and begin authentic translations.
