This thesis is to look into all the aspects of Han Yong-Un's Korean sino-poetry. In this study the methodologies of positivism and of the history of mental intelligence have been used. The contents of this thesis are summarized as follows:
The structural characteristics of Han Yong-Un's Korean sino-poetry are enumerated as the following.
1. The main current of this poetic form is the Ku˘nchesi(近體詩), especially, Chinese quatrains (絶句).
2. In his poetry the traditional Korean sino-poetic words are used repetitively: for example, the moon, ume blossoms, snowy hair, snow, flowers, rivers, water etc. Through the interrelationships of these words the poet has found, he expresses his emotion.
3. The dominant metaphor of his poetry is epiphor which of the basis is the identity principle rather than the non-identity.
4. Through using appropriately the Chinese poetry, Chinese historica episodes and idiomatic phrases, not being restricted by the chinese classics and historical texts, he enriches poetic images and meanings.
The developmental phases of his poetic themes are as follows:
1. The themes of the poems in the early period are the meditation on nature, the religious asceticism and a yearning for hometown.
2. The theme of the poems in the middle period is a Buddhistic world view obtained from his ascetic life.
3. The themes of his later poems are the national spirit and the prison life.
The form and theme of Han Youn-Un's Korean sino-poetry are well expressed in Love Silence (님의 沈默) and his Sijo (時調). Also the processes of the life and the aspects of the person as a Zen priest, a noble-minded patriot and a person are revealed in his Korean sino-poetry.
In conclusion, the form and contents of Han Yong-Un's about 170 Korean sino poems, founded upon the traditional literature, pictures the processes and thoughts of the life which are well expressed in his Sijo(時調) and Love Silence. (님의 沈默)
