퀼트기법의 조형적 연구 : 본인의 작품을 중심으로

Modern art conceptually categorizes artists such as sculptors or ancient artists according to their individuality or as genre of art is fallen into pieces. So it is getting harder to understand or analyse their work of art. Artists have freedom and uncertainty on meaning of art because of its variety or individuality of expression.
Modern artists do not have clear and general routes to be followed no longer. They do not have any direction toward art, which brought new freedom to them. That is, modern art is open unlike traditional art. K. Harris asked “What is artistic ?” in his “Modern Art - Its Philosophical Meaning.” There are a variety of answers to it, which indicates that meaning of art is uncertain.
This study is to compare western quilt with Korean quilt and analyse them based on uncertain environment of modern art and divided concepts of art genre. It also discusses examples that use cloth for artistic work and identifies needlework as art.
Cloth has been indispensable for men since ancient times, but it has not been accepted as a material or technique of formative art. It has been just used for daily purposes and today it has established its own area as a decorative and patterned visual art.
Needlework as a pastime of women was a means to express sorrow of Korean mothers and to create artistic and aesthetic value.
This study discusses that cloth can be used for abstract style to express one's own internal style rather than simple decorative expression with colors and patterns. For artistic expression, daily materials can be remodelled as unique and outstanding artistic work beyond being mediocre.
This study has a meaning in reflecting the past process of work and presenting a future direction. Finally, this study aims at identifying what problems there are in doing this kind of artistic work and which part should be further developed.
