자일리톨과 작두콩을 이용한 구취 저감 제품 개발 = Development of a Bad Breath-Reducing Product Using Xylitol and Sword Bean

In this study, we developed a bad breath reduction product that effectively alleviates bad breath by combining xylitol and sword bean (Canavalia gladiata) extract. Extraction of sword bean with roasting and grinding, followed by a pressurized hot water extraction (100°C, 6 h). The obtained solution was subsequently concentrated under vacuum at 60°C for three hours. To investigate the potential for reducing oral malodor, we assessed adenosine triphosphate (ATP) activity inhibition at various concentrations of sword bean extract. Additionally, we evaluated changes in oral odor by adjusting the mixing ratios of xylitol and sword bean extract. The results of the analysis showed that the concentrated sword bean extract had significantly reduced ATP activity and high antibacterial efficacy. When sword bean extract was combined with xylitol in optimal proportions, the reduction in oral malodor was even more pronounced. These results suggest that sword bean extract concentrate is effective in reducing bad breath and may be applied to the oral health industry.
