This study is to find what infants perceive single parent family, to develop anti-bias education program against single parent family for infants, and to identify what influence infants have on the perception by having such a program.
For the study, it examines the perception of single parent family with 50 infants of seven year old, who enrolled in two nurseries in Seoul. They are divided into experiment group and control group. The experiment group has anti-bias education and their perception of single parent family is compared to that of control group.
To find what infants perceive single parent family, unstructured interview is used, asking what they perceive family and marriage, divorce, single parent family, single parent's children, etc.
The results are as follows;
First, to develop anti-bias education program against single parent family for infants, the object and content of the program through selected prior study. The content has 5 subjects, including various forms of family, marriage and divorce, living alone, if living only with mother (father), and great heroes from single parent family. Education activities are scheduled 5 day program for a whole day (needed a week) and developed with various teaching methods for infants.
Second, infants perceive family and marriage positively but they had negative perception of divorce and single parent family. They did not understand exactly what single parent family was and believe that single parent family was caused by parents' quarrel, divorce, separation by death, and desertion. If their parents were separated by divorce, respondents said that they would not tell the truth to anybody not to be teased by peers. Also they thought children of single parent family could not be great heroes because of having either mother or father.
Third, after having anti-bias education program for infants against single parent family, infants are getting well-understood the meaning and cause of single parent family, thinking children from single parent family positively. Especially those in experiment group, unlike control group, answered that they want to be friends with children from single parent family because of goodness and children from single parent family seems to be happy (31.8%). Also it showed that they think children of single parent family grow to be superior and have known many great heroes from single parent family.
