The purpose of this study was to develop the adjustment of air force recruits in the military service scale(ASMS), which measured the degree of adjustment of air force recruits. To achieve this purpose, a rating process by experts yielded 128 items from previous studies and measuring instruments. Then 38 items were selected for further study. Five hundred thirty eight soldiers were selected to participate in this study. The results of this study were as follows: First, the Adjustment of Soldiers in the Military Service Scale(ASMS) with 38 items related to the contents about military adjustment was developed. To examine internal consistency and split-half reliability, data were collected from samples of 538 recruits, and to verify 4-week test-retest reliability, data were collected from samples of 193 recruits. The result showed high internal consistency(Cronbach's α = .981), split-half reliability(r = .927), and test-retest reliability(r = .982). Therefore, the consistency of the scale was satisfactory. Second, the six factors to the scale have been extracted from the factor analysis. The six factors were consisted of 'physical condition(8 items)', 'base environment(8 items)', 'family background(5 items)', 'relationship with opposite sex(6 items)', colleague and rank relationship(6 items), and personality(5 items). The factor structure well reflected characteristic of the adjustment of soldiers in the military service.
