The purpose of this research was to understand the relation between respect experience, subjective well-being, and mindfulness. In addition, it was to clarify the effect of respect experience and subjective well-being on mindfulness. In other words, mindfulness thinking was actualized in daily life. 354 male and female college students in Gyeonggi and Incheon were selected as objects. The collected data was analyzed by using SPSS 18.0. As the first step of the analysis process, the correlation analysis was conducted to understand the relation between factors. Then multiple-regression analysis was conducted to understand the effect of respect experience and subjective well-being on mindfulness.
The results are as follows. First, there was positive correlation between respect experience, subjective well-being and mindfulness. According to the result of correlation analysis between sub-factors of respect experience, subjective well-being and mindfulness, acceptance, which was a sub-factor of respect experience, was shown to have significant correlation to sub-factors of subjective well-being and mindfulness. To be specific, acceptance has shown significant correlation to all the sub-factors of mindfulness. Among the sub-factors of mindfulness, immersion has shown the strongest correlation to acceptance. In addition, satisfaction, which was a sub-factor of subjective well-being, was shown to have significant correlation to all the sub-factors of mindfulness. Among the sub-factors of mindfulness, enquiry has shown the strongest correlation to satisfaction. Moreover, positive emotion, which was a sub-factor of subjective well-being, is shown to have significant correlation to all the sub-factors of mindfulness. Among the sub-factors of mindfulness, enquiry has been verified to have the strongest correlation. The negative emotion, which was a sub-factor of subjective well-being has shown significant negative correlation to all the sub-factors of mindfulness. Among them, immersion has shown the strongest correlation.
Second, respect experience and subjective well-being showed significance in predicting mindfulness. They had positive effect on predicting mindfulness. Additionally, comparing to respect experience, subjective well-being has shown stronger effect on improving mindfulness.
Third, mindfulness are shown to have 34% of explanation on sub-factors of respect experience and subjective well-being.
In conclusion, the hypothesis, which set respect experience and subjective well-being as effective variables of mindfulness, was verified This result implied that we should consider unconditional positive acceptance, 'Life is good' of subjective well-being, positive and negative emotion at the same time to improve mindfulness. Furthermore, on thinking and practicing mindfulness, subjective well-being has stronger effect than respect experience. Therefore, we should consider the moment when satisfaction, positive and negative emotion act in daily life as an opportunity to actualize thinking and practicing mindfulness. Meanwhile, among the sub-factors of subjective well-being, satisfaction and acceptance are verified as to have the strongest explanation. This result implies that treating people without any bias was a way to actualize mindfulness in daily life or counseling. Through this process, one can feel a sense of security and trust. This research was stoppingstone to be a foothold of creative life which can be realized by possessing flexible and open way of thinking, self-legitimacy, and extended and deepened meaning of life.
