재즈 음악 기법에 관한 연구 = A Study on Jazz Music Techniques

국문 초록 (Abstract)

재즈의 역사는 약 100년의 시간 동안 사회적, 문화적, 경제적, 정치적 배경에 따라 음악적 특성 요소를 발전시켜 왔으며, 대중매체의 발달과 함께 발전하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 재즈의 시대적 배경, 주요사건, 변화과정을 비교 연구하여 시대적 음악을 이해하고 이를 바탕으로 음악적 기법을 분석하고자 하였다.
재즈에서 즉흥연주는 다른 음악과는 차별화되는 중요한 요소이다. 재즈 연주자들은 다양한 방식을 만들어내고 발전시켜나가면서 즉흥연주에 적용하였고 새로운 음악적 기법들이 탄생하게 되었다. 리듬, 화성 요소를 활용하여 사용한 음악적 기법은 즉흥연주와 새로운 음악 장르를 형성하는데 있어 실험적인 도구로 다양하게 쓰이게 되었다. 이러한 다양한 음악적 기법에 따라 연주자들의 개인 기량과 특성을 파악 할 수 있고 장르가 구분되어 진다.
오늘날 현대 음악에 이르기까지 재즈의 다양한 특징적 요소들은 각 시대별로 연주자들과 작곡가들에 의해서 발전을 해 왔다. 현대 대중음악의 요소들을 들여다보면 그 뿌리는 재즈의 초기 시절인 래그타임에서부터 시작되었고 그 역사와 함께 다양한 음악적 기법을 토대로 지속적으로 발전하였다.
현재 재즈는 전 세계를 통하여 연주되고 있으며 연구 활동이 이루어지고 있는 것에 비하여 우리나라에서는 여전히 소수의 애호가들에 의해서 연주가 이루어지고, 재즈를 공부하는 학생들 역시 연주활동과 이론 수업에만 치우치고 있는 실정이다.
그래서 재즈로의 체계적인 접근을 위해 1900년대 초창기 재즈부터 1970년대 퓨전 재즈 시대까지 변천 과정을 통해 발전해 나가는 재즈의 음악적 특징 및 기법을 다양한 학위논문, 서적 등 자료를 바탕으로 한 연구로 진행되었다. 또한, 재즈의 특징적 요소와 기법 연구에 있어서 리듬, 코드, 스케일로 나누어 연구하였고 래그타임, 비밥 재즈, 쿨 재즈, 보사노바의 특징적 요소와 음악적 기법을 살펴보면서 분석하였다.
그 결과 래그타임, 비밥 재즈, 쿨 재즈, 보사노바의 시대는 다르지만 공통적으로 사용한 재즈의 특징적 요소와 음악적 기법들이 있었고 즉흥성과 새로운 시도를 통해 변화를 거듭해 오며 발전해 왔다.
재즈에서 음악적 기법이 도출된 결과를 이론과 실전 연주 및 교육활동에 적용되어 활용되고, 재즈의 외연을 넓히는 시도가 될 수 있을 것으로 생각한다.

The history of jazz has developed musical characteristics according to social, cultural, economic, and political back grounds for about 100 years, and has developed along with the development of mass media. The purpose of this study was to understand the music of the times by comparatively studying the historical background, major events, and changing process of jazz, and to analyze musical techniques based on this.
Improvisation in jazz is an important element that differentiate
s it from other music. As jazz players created and developed various methods, they applied them to improvisation, and new musical techniques were born. Musical techniques using rhythm and harmony elements have been used in various ways as experimental tools in improvisation and forming new musical genres.
According to these various musical techniques, performers' personal skills and characteristics can be grasped and genres are classified.
Various characteristic elements of jazz, up to today's modern music, have been developed by performers and composers in each era. Looking into the elements of modern popular music, its roots began with ragtime, the early days of jazz, and continued to develop based on various musical techniques along with its history.
Currently, jazz is being played all over the world, and while research activities are being conducted, it is still played by a small number of enthusiasts in Korea, and students studying jazz are also focused on performance activities and theory classes. So, for a systematic approach to jazz, research was conducted based on various materials such as theses and books on the musical characteristics and techniques of jazz that developed through the transition process from the early jazz of the 1900s to the fusion jazz era of the 1970s.
In addition, in the study of the characteristic elements and techniques of jazz, it was divided into rhythm, code, and scale, and analyzed while looking at the characteristic elements and musical techniques of ragtime, bebop jazz, cool jazz, and bossa nova.
As a result, although the eras of ragtime, bebop jazz, cool jazz, and bossa nova were different, there were characteristic elements and musical techniques of jazz that were commonly used, and they have been changing and developing through improvisation and new attempts.
I think that the results of musical techniques derived from jazz can be applied and utilized in theory, practical performance, and educational activities, and can be an attempt to broaden the scope of jazz.
