디지털 시각 요소를 이용한 써피스 디자인의 표현 방법 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

디지털은 현대 사회에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 단어로, 그 언어가 뜻하는 의미는 사전적 의미를 뛰어넘어 현대인의 생활 습관을 바꾸어 놓는 것은 물론, 이들의 생활환경에도 많은 영향을 미치고 있다. 또한, 많은 디자이너들은 디지털 환경으로 인한 새로운 변화를 받아들이며 과학적, 기술적으로 디지털 도구의 적극적인 활용으로 디지털 기반 디자인을 확산시켜 나아가고 있다. 이에 현대 생활 속에서 디자인 전반에 기초가 되고 있는 텍스타일 디자인은 빠르게 발전하는 현대 사회에 발맞춰 나아가 현대인이 원하는 확장된 개념과 다양한 표현 재료 및 기법들의 효율적인 활용을 위한 디자인을 창출해야 한다. 이를 위해서는 새로운 개념의 써피스 디자인의 표현 방법에 관한 개발이 무엇보다도 중요하다.
이에 본 연구자는 픽셀, 아스키 코드, 디지털 하프토닝을 응용하여 디지털이 가지고 있는 각각의 요소들의 일반적 개념을 바탕으로 형태에서 오는 특징을 고려하여 써피스 디자인의 표현 방법을 연구하였다. 먼저, 분석을 위하여 기하학의 기본이 되는 원과 자연 모티프 중에 나뭇잎을 모티프로 선정하고, 형태 변화에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 크기, 기울기, 비율을 선정하여 변화를 측정 한 후, 형태적 효과를 연구하여 도출된 원과 나뭇잎의 형태를 비교 분석하였다.
이를 통하여 디지털 시각 요소인 픽셀, 아스키 코드, 디지털 하프토닝은 써피스 디자인의 다양한 모티프 개발에 적용이 되고, 더 나아가 각각의 형태들이 써피스 패턴의 리핏을 만들기 위한 배열에도 활용이 가능할 것이라는 결론을 얻었다. 또한, 앞으로 지속적인 연구를 통하여 디지털 원리를 토대로 한 본 연구의 표현 방법이 디지털 테크놀로지와 하나로 융합되어 시대성과 활용성을 겸비한 디자인으로 한걸음 다가서기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Digital has been significantly influencing on the living environment of people in the modern society as well as changing their life styles beyond its dictionary definition as the word which we can easily meet in our life. Furthermore, a number of designers has been expanding the digital-based design by actively using the digital tools on the scientific and technical aspects as accepting the new change caused by digital environment. Accordingly, the textile design, the basis of all kinds of design areas in the modern society, needs to create the design for effectively using a variety of expression concepts and techniques as well as expanded concepts which modern people desire in the rapidly changing modern society. To this end, it is the most important to develop the expression approaches of surface designs of new concepts.
Accordingly, this study examined the surface design expression approaches using pixel, ASCII and digital image halftoning in consideration of the features based on the general concepts of each element in digital technology. First, leaves were selected as the motif among the basic motives of geometry, circle and natural motif, for the analysis. Size, gradient and ratio were selected as the elements which influenced on the change of form. After measuring the change, the circle and the form of leaves were compared and analyzed for the study on formative effects.
On the basis of such results, it was concluded that pixel, ASCII and digital image halftoning, the digital visual elements, could be applied for the development of various motives in surface design and furthermore be utilized for the arrangement to make forms repeat surface pattern. In addition, it is expected that the expression approaches in this study could be the basis for further development of design combining temporal characteristics and usability along with the digital technology on the basis of the digital principles.
