This study was intended to find maternal factors influencing child abuse at home, in order to offer basic information needed in social intervention for prohibition and treatment of child abuse. For the study, data were collected from 161 mothers who were participated in a questionnaire survey and who got married, never divorced nor lost husband, and had children under 13 years of age(preschoolers and elementary students) in Gyeongnam province.
For Data analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and stepwise regression analysis were used.
As a result of analysing data, the followings were found.
First, among the factors influencing the general child abuse, early abuse experience as a child and stress of parenting have a significant impact on child abuse. It shows that the more abuse experiences as a child and the higher stress of parenting they have had, the more they abuse their children.
Second, among the factors influencing physical and emotional abuse, stress of parenting has a significant impact on physical and emotional abuse. It indicates that the higher stress of parenting they have had, the more they abuse their children physically and emotionally.
Third, among the factors influencing, early abuse experience as a child has a significant impact on the neglect. It indicates that the more abuse experience as a child they have had, the more they neglect to their children.
Based on the result,
First, it is needs to provide the effective intervention for the mothers with abuse experience as a child and to prevent the mothers with abuse experience as a child from abusing their children. For prohibition of child abuse, it is helpful for the parents to participate in education parenting, and for anger control.
Second, in order to help the parents reduce their stress of parenting, it is necessary to provide appropriate child-care services and fostering programs, as well as stress control program is also needed.
