중국인 유학생의 불안과 불확실성이 문화적응과 커뮤니케이션에 미치는 영향 = The Effects of Anxiety and Uncertainty on Cultural Adjustment and Communication of International Chinese Students in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 국내 중국인 유학생이 증가하면서 나타나는 커뮤니케이션과 국내 문화적응 문제를 불안과 불확실성 관리이론을 통해서 규명하고자 하였다. 총 145명의 국내 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였고, 구조방정식을 통해 가설을 검증하였다.
불안과 불확실성 관리이론이 효율적인 커뮤니케이션과 문화적응에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 중국인 유학생의 불안과 불확실성은 한국인과의 효율적인 커뮤니케이션에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 중국인 유학생의 불안과 불확실성은 심리적 문화적응에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 중국인 유학생의 불확실성은 행동적 문화적응에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 중국인 유학생의 불안은 행동적 문화적응에 미치는 영향은 나타나지 않았다. 넷째, 중국인 유학생의 효율적인 커뮤니케이션이 국내 문화적응(심리적, 행동적)에 미치는 영향은 나타나지 않았다.
이상과 같이 국내 중국인 유학생이 효율적인 커뮤니케이션과 국내 문화적응을 용이하게 하기위해서는 불안과 불확실성을 낮출 필요가 있다. 이를 위해서는 중국인 유학생들이 국내 문화에 대한 이해와 적절한 정보, 한국인들의 입장에서 생각함으로써 불확실성을 낮추고, 또 이를 통해 낮아진 불확실성은 중국인 유학생의 감정적인 불안도 함께 낮추어 주면서 효율적인 커뮤니케이션과 문화적응이 이루어 질 수 있을 것이다.
본 연구는 국내 문화간 커뮤니케이션관점에서 중국인 유학생의 커뮤니케이션과 문화적응을 연구한데 의의가 있지만, 불안과 불확실성을 낮추기 위한 구체적인 개선방향을 제시하지 못한 한계가 있다. 향후 연구에서는 중국인 유학생의 커뮤니케이션과 문화적응에 대한 좀 더 구체적이고 활용할 수 있는 방안이 제시되어야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to verify the problem of international Chinese students in Korea in communication and cultural adjustment using management theory of anxiety and uncertainty. We conducted survey in 145 international Chinese students in Korea and investigates the hypothesis with structural equation.
The results of how management theory of anxiety and uncertainty affects effective communication and cultural adjustment are as followed.
First, anxiety and uncertainty of international Chinese students have negative effect on effective communication with Koreans. Second, anxiety and uncertainty of international Chinese students have negative effect on psychological cultural adjustment. Third, uncertainty of international Chinese students has negative effect on behavior cultural adjustment.
However, anxiety of international Chinese students does not have negative effect on behavior cultural adjustment. Fourth, effective communication of international Chinese students did not have any effect on adjusting to Korea in psychological and behavior perspective.
In order to help international Chinese students in Korea to communicate and adjust to Korean culture effectively, we need to lower the level of anxiety and uncertainty. To achieve this, we need to help Chinese students understand Korean culture by providing appropriate information. Chinese students also must think from Korean people’s perspective to lower the level of uncertainty and this low level of uncertainty leads to low level of emotional anxiety. This then effects effective communication and cultural adjustment.
Although this study achieves to study about communication and cultural adjustment of international Chinese students in Korea from a communication perspective between different cultures, it does not provide specific guidelines to lower level of uncertainty and anxiety. Further studies must be conducted to provide methods to improve communication and cultural adjustment for international Chinese students in Korea.
