Voice of the Earth : An Intertextual Interpretation of Jeremiah 12:1-17 and Psalm 29:1-11 from Ecological Perspectives and Its Relevance in Indonesian Contexts

The main purpose of this study is to make an intertextual interpretation of Jeremiah 12:1-17 and Psalm 29:1-11 from an ecological perspective and its relevance in the Indonesian contexts. Researcher will explore and identify how and where “Voice of the Earth” was heard in this textual tradition. This exegetical study becomes a counter ideology for the biblical text which tends to be dominant and silent towards the Earth. The theological-biblical thought transformation builds awareness and practice of ecojustice. The two texts have a constructive thematic correlation. The researcher will interpret intertextually for differences and similarities, conjunctions, and disjunctions between the two texts. This thematic correlation can produce thematic elaboration from judgment to restoration, from lamentation to celebration, from suffering to praise. Researchers will explore voice of the Earth by using an inductive comparison study.
A comparative study from general to specific concepts, begins with a comparison between the ancient Near Eastern literary traditions and the Hebrew Bible, then a comparison of the Old Testament texts, followed by a textual comparison between Jeremiah 12 and Psalm 29 and ends with a dialogue between the text and the context, specifically the Indonesian contexts. This study is expected to contribute to providing sensitivity and awareness of alternatives about ecojustice. Collective awareness that is applied in the social responsibilities of the community and the church to build a sustainable living network between God, humans and the Earth.
Listening to voice of the Earth is a good responsive attitude to dealing with the diversity of problematic ecology. This study shows characteristics of voice of the Earth that voice of the earth has a dynamic movement, not static. As a subject, Earth can move freely and creatively to express itself. The significant thing that the Earth is able to advocate for itself by acknowledging its suffering and fighting injustice. Earth has the potential to defend and restore itself.
