가정배경, 교사 지지, 컴퓨터 이용 행태, 학업성취 간 구조적 관계 분석 = Structural Relationships between Family Background, Perceived Teacher Support, Computer Use Pattern and Academic Achievement

Drawing on first-second wave data from the Korean Education Longitudinal Study, KELS, this study explores the structural relationships between family background, perceived teacher support, computer use pattern and academic achievement among junior high school students, and examines how the relationships vary by gender using the structural equation modeling. The results show that parental education and parenting styles have a significant indirect effect on academic achievement via differing patterns of computer use while they exert a direct effect on academic achievement as well. Specifically, those students whose parents have higher education level are more likely to spend time on the computer for learning whereas they are less likely to spend time on the computer for recreation. In a similar vein, those students whose parents have more accepting and autonomous parenting styles are likely to have a high tendency of computer use for learning and a low tendency of computer use for recreation. As such, the varying patterns of computer use by family background are expected to eventually widen the educational gap between social classes because computer use pattern is closely related to academic achievement. Meanwhile, the results from multi-group analysis exhibit that computer use pattern of female students is more likely to be affected than that of their male counterparts by parenting styles.
