Creativity has been regarded as the key meas of organizational innovations and effectiveness. Amabile introduced the componential model of creativity consisting of intrinsic motivation, creative skills and domain-relevant skills. Early research on creativity focused on individual-level characteristics such as traits, motives, cognitions, and behaviors. However, this research explores the interplay between individual actors and contextual factors for creative process by investigating the relationship between individuals’ domain-relevant expertise influenced by social and contextual factors and their creative performance. The results from a sample of 503 individual game designers and 601 video games in the video game industry showed that individuals who have task expertise, managerial expertise, relational expertise, and task expertise tend to have greater creative performance.
