      • The Mapping for Relationship between Road Accidents and Traffic Congestion for Expressway Management Decision

        S. Sarifah Radiah Shariff,A. Dinnul Firdausi Mohamad Ibrahim KINFORMS 2020 Management Review Vol.15 No.1

Traffic congestion and road accidents are part of the major transportation problems across the globe. In a developing country like Malaysia, traffic congestion and road accidents are among serious problem that have impacted many sectors namely economic and social sectors. In this study, the relation between traffic congestion and road accidents is explored based on data collected from main expressway in Klang Valley. The objective of this study is to identify the locational pattern between traffic congestion and road accidents (if there is) as well as to propose method of data collection that provides the information. Descriptive analysis and Single Factor ANOVA are used to explore and analyse the primary data set of traffic congestion and the secondary data set on road accidents obtained from the selected Expressway. It is found that heavy traffic congestion occurs the most especially during morning peak hours on weekdays. However, road accident happens randomly at various location and time. From the mapping and test done, it shows there is no significant relation between traffic congestion and road accidents, yet some locations are prone to both traffic congestion and road accidents.

      • Challenges and Usefulness of Body-Worn Camera Among Malaysian Road Transport Department (RTD) Patrol Officers

        S. Sarifah Radiah Shariff(S. Sarifah Radiah Shariff ),Mohd Fikri Hadrawi(Mohd Fikri Hadrawi ),Mohd Fauzi Azalli(Mohd Fauzi Azalli ) KINFORMS 2022 Management Review Vol.17 No.2

Law enforcement namely Road Transport Department (RTD) officers, face challenges in carrying out their duties on the road. The purpose of this study is to highlight on the challenges and issues faced by the officers in Malaysian road and the appropriate use of technology in assisting RTD officers in enforcement duties focusing on the usefulness of Body-worn cameras. The officers involved in the study consisted of the head of the RTD patrol team in the southern region of Malaysia. The results show that this product can assist officers in facilitating their duties. Overall, many respondents point out that this product can facilitate their work easily, provide safer conditions and provide data evidence. It helps in preparing jobs reports and made the officers not burdened in the task. Most respondents were positive about the use of Body-worn cameras especially in alleviating the challenges faced by them.

      • The Application of Dynamic Programming Method in Finding Shortest Path for Order Picker with Limited Picking Capacity

Noraimi Azlin Mohd Nordin,Mohd Omar,S. Sarifah Radiah Shariff KINFORMS 2018 Management Review Vol.13 No.1

Companies are looking forward to improve their productivity within their warehouse operations and distribution centres. In a typical warehouse operation, order picking contributes more than half percentage of the operating costs. Order picking is a benchmark in measuring the performance and productivity improvement of any warehouse management. Smooth and fast order picking can help to reduce waiting time at the customers end and may increase customers’ satisfaction. Hence, it is crucial to reduce order picking time and one of the ways is by considering the proper routing for picking an order in the warehouse. In this study, the Dynamic Programming (DP) method and Dijkstra’s algorithm are applied to find the shortest distance for order picking in an automotive manufacturing company’s warehouse. The results show that the DP method is a simple yet competent approach compared to Dijkstra’s algorithm in finding the shortest distance to pick an order. DP is then adopted to determine the shortest distance for each order picker considering the limited volume he can picked at a time The results show a reduced of shortest time by 12% using this method. The shortest distance for each OP with items are also discussed thoroughly in this paper.
