        Dykellic Acid Inhibits Cell Migration and Tube Formation by RhoA-GTP Expression

        <P>Dykellic acid, a novel factor initially identified from the culture broth of <I>Westerdykella multispora</I> F50733, has been shown to inhibit matrix metalloprotease 9 activity, caspase-3 activity, B cell proliferation and LPS-induced IgM production, suggesting that this factor may have anti-cancer effects. In an effort to further address the possible anti-tumoral effects of dykellic acid, we used wound healing, invasion and RhoA-GTP assays to examine the effects of dykellic acid on cell migration, invasion and angiogenesis. Our results revealed that dykellic acid dose-dependently inhibits B16 cell migration and motility, and inhibits HUVEC tube formation. Western blot analysis of the active form of RhoA (RhoA-GTP) showed that dykellic acid treatment decreased the levels of RhoA-GTP. These findings collectively suggest that dykellic acid may have both anti-metastatic and anti-angiogenic acitivites, and provides the first evidence for the involvement of RhoA in dykellic acid-induced effects.</P>

        항암항생제 Rhodomycin(2)의 합성단계 최종물질인 (${\pm}$)-${\gamma}$-Rhodomycinone(4) 과 10-Deoxy-${\gamma}$-rhodomycinone(5)이 9-ethyl-9,10-epoxy-4,6, 11-trihydroxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydronaphthacene-5,12-dione(10)의 epoxide ring 쪼개짐으로부터 만들어졌고, epoxide 10은 Hauser-Rhee가 개발한 고리접합법을 이용해서 만든 9-acetyl-4,5,6,11,12-pentamethoxy-7,8-dihydronaphthacene(6)으로 부터 얻었다. $({\pm})-{\gamma}$-Rhodomycinone(4) and 10-Deoxy-${\gamma}$-rhodomycinone(5), late-stage Precursors of the alglycone of antitumor antibiotic Rhodomycin(2) were prepared from the cleavage of epoxide ring of 9-ethyl-9,10-epoxy-4,6, 11-trihydroxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydronaphthacene-5,12-dione(10). The epoxide 10 was furnished from 9-acetyl-4,5,6,11,12-pentamethoxy-7,8-dihydronaphthacene(6), which was assembled utilizing ring annelation methodology developed by Hauser-Rhee.

        American Literary Canon of Pre-Columbian Era in Elizabeth Chesley Baity’s Americans before Columbus

        This paper analyzes the American canon of pre-Columbian era in Elizabeth Baity’s Americans before Columbus, a winner of Newbery Honor prize in 1952. As Raymond Williams pinpoints “the selective tradition” as one of the essential characteristics in canonical texts, Baity’s “selective” perspectives towards pre-Columbian Indians have been influential in making stereotypes of Indians. Devon Mihesuah elaborates twenty five stereotypes: “Indians are all alike”; “Indians were conquered because they were inferior”; “Indians have no religion”; “Indians are a vanished race” etc. On one hand, Baity has recorded meticulously the past histories of the Americas in pre-Columbian era with pictures and illustrations. On the other hand, she “selectively” agreed with the discourses in American studies: Crosby’s ecological imperialism; the settlement, not colonization, theory of the Americas; Columbus as a hero rather than bullies; the primitiveness of the Indians vs the civilization of Euro-Americans. The main audiences of Baity’s book are children attending public schools. Once familiar with the stereotypes of Indians in their early age, they will accept without doubt similar images of Indians from such college textbooks as American Roots and A New Introduction to American Studies they read within classrooms. What is missing in Baity’s book is the discourses to bridge the two big paradigms, America before Columbus and America after Columbus, from complementary standards. The addition to the missing part will keep the Newbery Honor book free from the polemics of political correctness.

        The Study on Flora and Distribution Characteristics of Orchidaceae on Moor

        Total 7 moors. Yong-neup on Mt. Daeam, Chilbo Mt. moor, Dogapsa-neup in Mt. Wolchul. Wangdeungjae-neup on Mt. Jiri, Mujechi-neup on Mt. Jungjok, Buljae-neup on Mt. Kyungak and Geoinri-neup on Dongsang, were investigated by literatures and survey. Distribution, condition, and similarity of dominant species and Orchidaceae on moor were analyzed. The results are follows; There are total 46 wetland plant species observed more than twice from 7 moors. The plants classified as constancy class Ⅴ, which are appeared more than 80%, are Iris ensata var. spontane, Juncus effusus var. decipiens, Sanguisorba tenuifolia var. alba, Habenaria linearifolia, Sium ninsi, Lobella sessilifolia, Lastrea thelyptoris, and Eupatorium chinensis var. simplicifolium. Highly apperaing Orchidaceae, which was classified to constancy class Ⅳ plant, are Habenaria livearifolia, Pogonia japonica, Epipactis thunbergii, and Platanthera mandarinorum. They are the typical index plants of the moors. Habitual enviroment of Habenaria rodiata and Platanthera hologlottis can be affected by environmental aspects such as latitude, altitude and the water quality. However those of Habenaria linearifolia, Epipactis thunbergii, and Pogonia japonica are not affected by latitude and altitude, but may be determined by water condition of wetland, As the result of similarity index analysis for appearance of Orchidaceae identifying each moors in the view off species composition, swamps at Dogapas-neup and Buljae-neup. Yong-neup had shown the high similarity indices of 0.85 and 0.75 with Wangdeungjae-neup and Mujechi-neup, respectively. Growth properties of wild Orchidaceae at wetland were almost similar. Platanthera mandarinorum and Liparis kumokiri had characteristics off good adaptability. Most of them need light. Pogonia was the only long-day plant. The flowering time of these Orchidaceae was from May to September.

        본인들은 1969年 12月부터 1976年 2月까지 濟州島의 4개 지역(위미, 범섬, 섭섬, 서귀포)으로부터 본인들에 의해 採集된 標本들을 同定·分類하였다. 그 결과 2目 2科 2屬 9種의 韓國未記錄種을 얻었으며 이들은 다음과 같다. Dendronephthya gigantean, D.suensoni, D. mollis, D. pu¨tteri, D. alba, D. palaoensis, D. spinulosa, D. castanea 및 Sclerobelemnon burgeri. 지금까지 밝혀진 韓國産 珊瑚蟲類는 모두 3目 10科 15屬 36種이 되는 셈이다. The identified Korean anthozoans in the present work are classified into nine species which are all found to be new to Korean fauna: Dendronephthya gigantean, D.suensoni, D. mollis, D. pu¨tteri, D. alba, D. palaoensis, D. spinulosa, D. castanea and Sclerobelemnon burgeri.

      • Isolation of a New Carotenoid Pigment from an Undescribed Gorgonian of the Genus Muricella

        Muricellaxanthin, a novel carotenoid pigment has been isolated by activity-guided separation from an undescribed gorgonian of the genus Muricella collected from Jaeju Island. Structure of this compound has been determined by a combination of spectral methods. Stereochemistry has been defined by interpretation of nOe data and comparison of CD data with related compounds. Muricellaxanthin exhibited potent lethality against brine-shrimp larvae.

      • Construction of Interspecific Hybrids between Aspergillus spp. by Nuclear Transfer

        섬유질 분해능이 향상된 새로운 Aspergillus 균주를 개발하기 위하여, A. awamori, A. usamii, A. oryzae 등의 균주간의 핵전이를 통하여 종간잡종을 얻어내었다. 이들 상호간의 안정된 종간잡종은 원형질체 융합법에 의해서는 전혀 이루어지지 않은 데 반하여, 핵전이에 의한 종간잡종 형성 빈도는 2×10 exp(-5)-7× exp(-4)으로 나타났다. 분리된 잡종들의 효소활성도를 분석해 본 결과, 10 개의 균주에서 cellulase, xylanase, amylase, β-xylosidase, 그리고 β-glucosidase 중 일부 또는 모든 효소 활성이 모균주보다 2배 이상까지 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 전기영동 및 isoelectric focusing에 의하여 일부 잡종들의 동위효소 양상이 모균주의 어느 쪽과도 일치하지 않음을 확인하였다. 포자의 크기 및 DNA 함량을 측정한 결과로 미루어 보아, 그들의 핵형은 대부분 배수체 또는 반수체에 가까운 이수체일 것으로 예측되었다. 본 연구의 결과, Aspergillus 속 균류에서 유연관계가 비교적 먼 종들 사이의 잡종형성을 통하여 새로운 균주를 개발하는 데 있어서 핵전이법이 원형질체 융합법보다 훨씬 더 효과적임이 밝혀졌다. Interspecific hybrids between the Aspergillus spp., A. awamori, A. usamii and A. oryzae, were obtained by nuclear transfer technique. Nuclei isolated from an auxotrophic mutant strain were transferred into the protoplasts of a recipient strain of different species. The frequency of interspecific hybrid formation by nuclear transfer was 2×10 exp (-5) - 7× 10 exp (-4). In contrast, no interspecific hybrid was isolated by protoplast fusion. Among the hybrids tested, 10 strains showed increased activity of some or all components of cellulases, xylanases and amylase up to more than two times. Isozyme patterns of the hybrids were analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and isoelectric focusing followed by activity staining, which showed that some of the hybrids have isozyme patterns unidentical to either of the two parents. By measuring the DNA contents and the sizes of the conidia, the karyotypes of the hybrids were estimated to be aneuploid near to haploid, diploid or triploid. It was concluded that the nuclear transfer technique is much more efficient in the formation of interspecific hybrids than protoplast fusion, and is very useful for the improvement of Aspergillus strains.

        In § 1, we review the Schwarz-Pick lemma, the concept of M□bius distance and the concept of P oincar□ distance. In § 2, we deal with the Carath□odory pseudodistance and the Carath□odory -Reiffen pseudometic as an invariant objects. In § 3, we introduce the Lempert function and the Kobayashi pseudodistance which are cintractible under holomorphic mappings. The concepts of hyperbolicity and taut is also introduced. Further, we will prove Theorem 3.6. In § 4, we deal with the Kobayashi-Royden pseudometric, the product property and the integrated form of invariant pseudometrics. In particular, we prove Theorem 4.6 which is a property of taut domain in complex euclidean spsce. In § 5, we deal with the Kobayashi simple domain which may deduce from the Lempert's results. Futher, we prove Theorem 5.1 and Theorem 5.2.
