      • Autonomous Evasive Steering with Differential Braking Backup

        Moad Kissai,Anh-Lam Do,Xavier Mouton,Bruno Monsuez 제어로봇시스템학회 2020 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2020 No.10

Every today’s vehicle is equipped with four independent brakes. When well-coordinated, these brakes can decelerate the vehicle and at the same time help control its yaw rate. This paper focuses on the use of this feature as a backup for autonomous evasive steering in severe situations. Today, differential braking is managed independently and activated separately from other systems. In our case, both autonomous steering and differential braking are activated. Results show that this can increase the potential of the vehicle to face more complex situations. The tools adopted in this paper remain valid for other types of system combinations.

      • A Comprehensive Comparison of Chassis Systems Coordination Approaches

        Moad Kissai,Bruno Monsuez,Didier Martinez,Xavier Mouton,Adriana Tapus 제어로봇시스템학회 2018 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2018 No.10

One of the main concerns of automotive industry is autonomous vehicles. Not only equipment suppliers but also new entering actors are racing to develop safer automotive systems. Consequently, the car manufacturer has to integrate different systems to control the same vehicle. This paper discusses the different architectures adopted to handle chassis systems interactions. Several car manufacturers study the influence of each system on the overall vehicle. They then add an additional coordination layer downstream the different systems to mitigate their possible conflicts. Here we propose a new approach that consists on managing systems interaction upstream the different systems. Coordination is based on control allocation techniques that take into account several vehicle states to find optimal commands distribution. Both approaches have been compared. Simulations showed the benefits that could offer the upstream approach in terms of safety and flexibility. The relevance of this approach is expected to grow with the increasing number of chassis systems.

      • Extensible Control Architecture for Over-Actuated Vehicles

        Moad Kissai,Xavier Mouton,Bruno Monsuez,Adriana Tapus 제어로봇시스템학회 2019 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2019 No.10

Most of today’s passenger cars are over-actuated. This over-actuation is expected to grow going towards self-driving cars. However, the necessary systems that would be needed for a safe and a comfortable autonomous driving remain uncertain. This paper aims to provide an extensible control architecture that does not depend on a particular system combination. Car manufacturers tend to develop ad hoc rule-based strategies for a specific set of integrated systems. Through several realistic scenarios, we have shown that the control architecture proposed in this paper can be adopted for different set of integrated systems. A minimal effort is required from the control designer when changing the nature of the systems integrated to adapt the control strategy. The control architecture proposed in this paper can serve as a starting point for the standardization of control architectures for future vehicles motion control.

      • Lack of Increased P15INK4B Protein Expression in Basal Cell Carcinomas

Moad, Ahmed Ismail Hassan,Tan, Mei Lan,Kaur, Gurjeet,Mabruk, Mohamed Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.12

Background: The basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSK). BCC might develop because of the faulty cell cycle arrest. $p15^{INK4b}$ is a tumor suppressor gene, involved in cell cycle arrest and inactivated in most human cancers. The role of $p15^{INK4b}$ protein expression in the genesis of BCC is as yet unknown. In a previous study we showed the absence of $p15^{INK4b}$ expression in the majority of tissue microarray cores of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCCs), another type of non-melanoma skin cancer, indicating that $p15^{INK4b}$ could possibly be involved in the pathogenesis of cutaneous SCC. The aim of this study was to investigate $p15^{INK4b}$ protein expression in BCCs. Materials and Method: Protein expression of $p15^{INK4b}$ in 35 cases of BCC tissue arrays and 19 cases of normal human skin tissue was studied using an immunohistochemical approach. Results: The expression of $p15^{INK4b}$ was not significantly different in the BCC cases as compared with normal human skin (p=0.356; p>0.05). In addition, there were no significant relationship between clinicopathologic variables of patients (age and sex) and $p15^{INK4b}$ protein expression. Conclusions: Our finding may indicate that $p15^{INK4b}$ protein expression does not play a role in the genesis of BCC.

      • The mTOR Signalling Pathway in Cancer and the Potential mTOR Inhibitory Activities of Natural Phytochemicals

Tan, Heng Kean,Moad, Ahmed Ismail Hassan,Tan, Mei Lan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.16

The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) kinase plays an important role in regulating cell growth and cell cycle progression in response to cellular signals. It is a key regulator of cell proliferation and many upstream activators and downstream effectors of mTOR are known to be deregulated in various types of cancers. Since the mTOR signalling pathway is commonly activated in human cancers, many researchers are actively developing inhibitors that target key components in the pathway and some of these drugs are already on the market. Numerous preclinical investigations have also suggested that some herbs and natural phytochemicals, such as curcumin, resveratrol, timosaponin III, gallic acid, diosgenin, pomegranate, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCC), genistein and 3,3'-diindolylmethane inhibit the mTOR pathway either directly or indirectly. Some of these natural compounds are also in the clinical trial stage. In this review, the potential anti-cancer and chemopreventive activities and the current status of clinical trials of these phytochemicals are discussed.

Persian medicine recommendations for the prevention of pandemics related to the respiratory system: A narrative literature review

        Maryam Iranzadasl,Yasin Karimi,Fatemeh Moadeli,Mehdi Pasalar 한국한의학연구원 2021 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.10 No.1

Background: Pandemics of infectious diseases have long been regarded as societal challenges. This study aimed to summarize the theories of Persian medicine for controlling respiratory disease-related pandemics and to compare these theories with the findings of modern medicine. Methods: We searched the classic medical reference books of the 9th to 19th centuries for the terms ‘polluted air’ and ‘pandemic’, and we searched 4 databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Scopus) with the keywords ‘COVID-19’, ‘pandemic’, ‘history’, and ‘prevention programs’. The results were collected and subjected to content analysis. Results: From the point of view of traditional Iranian physicians, disease prevention is primarily possible by avoiding pathogenic factors. As a secondary solution, reducing one's susceptibility to the disease is crucial; this can be achieved through cleansing the body and strengthening the mood, reducing food intake, decreasing the internal humidity, disinfecting the house with herbal fumigation, and making use of pleasant aromas. Some of these recommendations are reaffirmed by modern research. Conclusion: Persian medicine techniques may be preventive during respiratory, influenza-like disease pandemics. However, rigorous studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis.
