The novel "Fly" had been presented four months before the Kwandong Earthquake happened and the novel "Head and Belly" was presented after the Kwandong Earthquake. "Head and Belly" is highly valued in the history of literature in that not only is it typical of Sinkankakuha but also it is a starting point of Shyowa Literature. The purpose of this article is to compare and analyze the two works mentioned above "Fly" and "Head and Belly". Yokomitsu Riichi is foretelling a great catastrophe such as the Kwandong Earthquake through "Fly" and continues to warn us of further disastrous procedures arising from the accident. In the title of "Head and Belly", 'head' stands for 'soul', and 'belly' stands for 'material'. Yokomitsu Riichi suggests what we should pursue under the confusing circumstances of the Kwandong Earthquake by using the term and to symbolize apposition and by placing 'soul' and 'material' at the parallel line.

The anecdote is well-known in history that Brutus, killing Caesar, had a speech showdown with Antonius. This confrontation ended in a decisive victory for Antonius. Therein, Antonius successfully spoke with pathos, which means the appeal to others' sympathy; on the other hand, Brutus spoke with logos and ethos, including a false dilemma and hypocrisy. Brutus' failure in convincing his audience of his argumentation can be ascribed to his excessive dependence on logos. It follows with pertinent application of rhetoric (pathos, logos, and ethos) to modern advertising, that we can maximize the effects on introducing new merchandise to consumers. In this article, we will make an analysis of rhetorical factors that appear in advertising, and further take into consideration the rhetorical characteristics each piece of merchandise involves.

The purpose of this thesis is to observe the connection between author Yokomitsu and motion picture, and to investigate how his participation in the film production affects, his literary works. The close connection between his participation in the film production and a literary work, "The Thoughts in the Garden" has been observed. In his works, "Fly" and "Head and Body", protagonist's sight was fixed, but the shifts of its sight around the object were detected in his work, "The Thoughts in the Garden" which had been written after his participation in the film production. It is said that the production techniques used in the motion picture such as "Close-up" and expression method adopted in his work such as "Shift of Sight" are similar. In conclusion, author Yokomitsu learned new expression method from the film production and adapted it in his work, "The Thoughts in the Garden".
