        Ship's Maneuverability in Strong Wind

        This paper deals with effect of wind forces and moment acting on the training ship SAE NURI. The results of drift angle and counter rudder angle due to wind effect are calculated by using the static equilibrium method especially with nonlinear mathematical expression, and then the critical wind velocity is found out. The given results can be applied directly to T/S SAE NURI in handling under the wind condition and used for merchant ships as a referential tool.

        Artificial neural network controller for automatic ship berthing using head-up coordinate system

        The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model has been known as one of the most effective theories for automatic ship berthing, as it has learning ability and mimics the actions of the human brain when performing the stages of ship berthing. However, existing ANN controllers can only bring a ship into a berth in a certain port, where the inputs of the ANN are the same as those of the teaching data. This means that those ANN controllers must be retrained when the ship arrives to a new port, which is time-consuming and costly. In this research, by using the head-up coordinate system, which includes the relative bearing and distance from the ship to the berth, a novel ANN controller is proposed to automatically control the ship into the berth in different ports without retraining the ANN structure. Numerical simulations were performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller. First, teaching data were created in the original port to train the neural network; then, the controller was tested for automatic berthing in other ports, where the initial conditions of the inputs in the head-up coordinate system were similar to those of the teaching data in the original port. The results showed that the proposed controller has good performance for ship berthing in ports.

        Control System for Ship Collision Avoidance considering the Effect of Wind and Ship's Manoeuvrability

        The studies on automatic ship collision avoidance system, which have been carried out in the last 10 years, are facing on new situation due to newly developed high technology such as computer and other information system. It was almost impossible to make it used in real navigation field 3-4 years ago because of the absence of any tool to give other ship's information, however recently developed technology suggests new possibility. This study is carried out to develop the automatic ship collision avoidance support system which considers ship's manoeuvrability into it's collision avoidance algorithm. One of the important part in ship collision avoidance system is collision decision module which can calculate collision risk with other ships and act properly to avoid the situation. Many of previous researches are using present ship's dynamic data such as present speed, position and course to calculate collision risk. However when a ship commences avoidance action, the real situation is quite different with one that has been estimated by the ship's initial data due to the ship's manoeuvring characteristic. Therefore it is better to take into account ship's manoeuvring characteristic from the stage of collision decision in ship collision avoidance system. In this study, these effects are included in the developed system. The proposed system are verified its usefulness in numerical simulation environments.

        Ship Manoeuvring Performance Experiments Using a Free Running Model Ship

        In this paper, a 3m-class free running model ship will be introduced with its manoeuvring performance experiments. The results of turning circle test and zig-zag test will be explained. The developed system are equipped with GPS, main control computer, wireless LAN, IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), self-propulsion propeller and driving rudder. Its motion can be controlled by RC (Radio Control) and wireless LAN from land based center. Automatic navigation is also available by pre-programmed algorithm. The trajectory of navigation can be acquired by GPS and it provides us with important data for ship's motion control experiments. The results of manoeuvring performance experiment have shown that the developed free running model ship can be used to verify the test of turning circle and zig-zag. For next step, other experimental researches such as ship collision avoidance system and automatic berthing can be considered in the future.

        초대형 컨테이너선의 거주구역 재배치에 대한 경제성 평가

        최근 들어 초대형 선박에 대한 논의가 활발해진 가운데 선사들은 선박 대형화에 의한 규모의 경제 효과를 꾸준히 추구하고 있다. 기술과 경제성이 보장되는 한 당분간 이러한 선박 대형화의 추세는 지속될 전망이다. 선박대형화에 따라 거주공간의 위치변화에 대한 필요성이 조심스럽게 제기되고 있다. 본 논문은 초대형 컨테이너선의 거주 공간 재배치에 따른 경제성 평가 분석에 관한 내용을 다루었다. 선박의 초기 설계 단계에서, 도면 생성의 보완과 검증을 통하여 거주구역과 엔진실의 공간을 분리하는 제안을 하였다. 그에 관한 장단점을 분석하고, 실현 가능성 여부를 경제성 평가 분석을 통해 검토하였다. 경제성 평가 방법을 위한 목적함수는 요구운임지수를 사용하였다. TEU 증가에 의한 경제성을 전망하고, 이러한 공간 재배치에 따른 조선소와 선주의 경제성 평가를 분석하여, 선적 개수의 증가에 따른 경제성 전망을 제시하였다. Recently the building of ultra large container ship are discussed among ship building companies and ship operating company who have a tendency to pursue the advantage of large scale of economy. These tendency will be continued for the time being, if ship-building skill and economical efficiency are available. As the enlargement of container ship size becomes hot issues in ship-building markets, the needs for re-arrangement of accommodation house in large container ship are proposed carefully in some researches. This study examined economical efficiency of re-arrangement of accommodation house in ultra large container ship. The separation between accommodation and engine room is proposed through out drawing works in initial design stage and we examined the merits and demerits of the separation in the view of economical efficiency. The RFR(Required Freight Rate) is considered as the objective function to evaluate the re-designed vessel. The economical benefits are analyzed in the view of ship operator and shipyard respectively.

        선박충돌회피지원을 위한 자동제어–Ⅱ

        본 연구는 선박충돌회피 알고리즘에 대하여 검토하고, 이를 개선하려는 의도로 수행되었다. 선박충돌회피 알고리즘에 대한 연구는 지금까지 많이 수행되었는데, 이런 연구에서 채용하고 있는 핵심 이론을 내용에 따라 구분하면 위험도계산법과 위험지역 설정법으로 각각 나뉠 수 있다. 그 두 가지 이론은 각각의 장점과 단점을 가지고 있으며, 또한 그 한계성을 포함하고 있다. 이번 연구는 두 가지 이론의 한계점을 주목하기 위한 방안을 제시한다. 제시된 모델은 위험도 계산법을 기초로 하고 있으며, 위험도계산법에서 가장 문제시 되어온 임계값 설정 문제를 해결하기 위하여, 사용자가 항해 환경 등에 따라 적절히 그 설정값을 선택할 수 있는 기능을 제시하고 있다. 또한 두 가지 이론의 상호 관계를 규명하기 위해서 위험도 계산법의 시뮬레이션은 인용하여, 본선 주위에 위험구역을 도식해 봄으로써, 위험지역설정과 그 차이를 비교하여, 양자간의 이해를 돕는 수단으로 활용하였다. 마지막으로 위험도 계산법의 경우, 특히 TCPA, DCPA를 사용하여 위험도계산을 할 경우, 두 선박이 선미에서 너무 접근하는 문제점이 발생하는데, 이런 문제의 해결책의 하나로, 위험지역 설정법을 부분적으로 적용한 새로운 모델을 제시하고 그 효용성을 검증하였다. The purpose of this study is to examine the algorithm of ship collision avoidance system and to improve its performance. The study on the algorithm of ship collision avoidance system have been carried out by many researchers. We can divide the study according o the adopted theory into two category such as ‘collision risk calculation method’ and ‘risk area method’. It is not so difficult to find heir merit and demerit in the respective method. This study suggested newly modified model, which can overcome a limit in the two method. The suggested model is based on collision risk calculation method and suggests how to solve the threshold value problem, that is, one of the unsolved issues in collision risk calculation method. To solve that problem this study proposed new system under which the users can select appropriate threshold value according to environments such as traffic situations and weathers conditions. Simulation results of new model is schematized using ‘risk area method’ to examine the relationships between the two method. In addition, in case of ‘collision risk method’, when TCPA and DCPA are used to determine collision risk, a problem happens, that is, two ships become too close in their stem area, therefore, partial function of ‘risk area method’ is adopted to solve the problem in suggested model.

        선박 조종성능 연구를 위한 선체형상 파라메터와 유체력미계수와의 관계분석

        이 연구는 선박 설계 초기단계에서 선형 변화에 따른 선박 조종성능 추정에 관한 내용을 다루었다. 선박제원을 대표하는 파라메터 그리고 선미형상의 변화를 민감하게 반영할 수 있는 새로운 파라메터를 선정하는 작업을 수행하였다. 이렇게 선정된 파라메터와 유체력 미계수와의 상관관계를 알아보기 위하여 구속모형 실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과 기본적인 선박제원 중 선체 유체력 미계수와 상관도가 높은 파라메터를 가려낼 수 있었다. 또한 선미형상의 새로운 파라메터와 조종성능과의 상관도를 추정할 수 있었다. 또한 이를 활용하여 유체력미계수에 대한 새로운 경험식을 제시하였다. 이를 활용하면, 초기 선형 설계 시 선형변화 및 수정에 따른 조종성능 추정에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. This study was carried out to examine the prediction of ship’s manoeuvrability in initial design stage. New parameter representing basic hull form and stem shape were proposed Captive model test were carried out to investigate the correlation coefficient between hydrodynamic coefficient and hull parameter. The results showed which parameter are positive correlation with hydrodynamic coefficient. Moreover correlation was examined between stem hull shape and ship’s manoeuvrability. New empirical formulas for hydrodynamic coefficients were proposed. These results can be used to predict a ship’s manoeuvrability in initial design stage.

        완도권 여객선 운항 환경 개선에 관한 연구

        완도군을 중심으로 한 서남 해안권 해상교통의 수요는 나날이 증가하고 있다. 그러나 이 같이 증가하는 여객과 관광수요에 대응할 수 있는 해상 안전 및 편의 시설 개선을 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 완도항 항만수역, 완도권내 통항 항로 그리고 여객선 운항 환경 등에 대한 현황을 조사 분석하였다. 이와 함께 완도권 해상교통을 이용하는 이용자들을 대상으로 여객선 운항 환경 개선에 대한 설문을 수행하였다. 이를 바탕으로 해당 해역의 항해 위해도를 조사 분석하였으며, 여객선 운항 환경을 개선할 수 있는 제도적 장치 중에서 여객선 운임 체제개선, 타 시도 지역과 비교를 통항 개선방안 등을 제안하였다. 가장 시급한 문제는 항로상 산재해 있는 어장과 그로 인해 좁아진 항로가 여객선 운항에 가장 큰 위험요소가 됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한 여객선 운영측면에서는 타 지역에 비하여 자동화물비가 비싸 개선이 필요한 것으로 조사되었다. The sea traffic volume in Southwest sea including Wando area have increased every year. However the improvement of the facilities for convenience and safety in port and sea was not enough to meet the increasing demand of traffic and passengers' need. This study dealt with the situations and status of passenger ship traffic system in Wando area. In addition to, questionnaire survey of passenger ship user in Wando area was carried out in order to research the improvement of marine traffic system. On the basis of the result, navigation risks in the area was analysed. The institutional system such as passenger ship fare, enhanced traffic system that can improve marine traffic environment in the area were suggested and examined. The urgent issue was the scattered fishing ground near fairway which makes narrow passage and can cause risky passeger ship's navigation. In the side of passeger ship's operation, the wage of cargo handling was relatively expensive that needed to be improved
