SUPERCRITICAL WATER LOOP DESIGN FOR CORROSION AND WATER CHEMISTRY TESTS UNDER IRRADIATION

        Ruzickova, Mariana,Hajek, Petr,Smida, Stepan,Vsolak, Rudolf,Petr, Jan,Kysela, Jan Korean Nuclear Society 2008 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.40 No.2

An experimental loop operating with water at supercritical conditions(25MPa, $600^{\circ}C$ in the test section) is designed for operation in the research reactor LVR-15 in UJV Rez, Czech Republic. The loop should serve as an experimental facility for corrosion tests of materials for in-core as well as out-of-core structures, for testing and optimization of suitable water chemistry for a future HPLWR and for studies of radiolysis of water at supercritical conditions, which remains the domain where very few experimental data are available. At present, final necessary calculations(thermalhydraulic, neutronic, strength) are being performed on the irradiation channel, which is the most challenging part of the loop. The concept of the primary and auxiliary circuits has been completed. The design of the loop shall be finished in the course of the year 2007 to start the construction, out-of-pile testing to verify proper functioning of all systems and as such to be ready for in-pile tests by the end of the HPLWR Phase 2 European project by the end of 2009.

      • Extensions of smooth mappings into biduals and weak continuity

        Choi, Y.S.,Hajek, P.,Lee, H.J. Academic Press ; Elsevier Science B.V. Amsterdam 2013 Advances in mathematics Vol.234 No.-

We study properties of uniformly differentiable mappings between real Banach spaces. Among our main results are generalizations of a number of classical results for linear operators on L~-spaces into the setting of uniformly differentiable mappings. Denote by BX the closed unit ball of a Banach space X. Let X be a L~,λ-space, λ≥1, and let Y be a Banach space. Let T:BX→Y be a continuous mapping which is uniformly differentiable in the open unit ball of X. Assuming that T is weakly compact, then T can be extended, preserving its best smoothness properties, into the mapping from the 1λ-multiple of the unit ball of any superspace of the domain space X into the same range space Y. We also show that T maps weakly Cauchy sequences from λBX into norm convergent sequences in Y. This is a uniformly smooth version of the Dunford-Pettis property for the L~,λ-spaces. We also show that a uniformly differentiable mapping T, which is not necessarily weakly compact, still maps weakly Cauchy sequences from λBX into norm convergent sequences in Y, provided Y** does not contain an isomorphic copy of c0. We prove that for certain pairs of Banach spaces the completion of the space of polynomials equipped with the topology of uniform convergence on the bounded sets (of the functions and their derivatives up to order k) coincides with the space of uniformly differentiable (up to order k) mappings. Our work is based on a number of tools that are of independent interest. We prove, for every pair of Banach spaces X,Y, that any continuous mapping T:BX→Y, which is uniformly differentiable of order up to k in the interior of BX, can be extended, preserving its best smoothness, into a bidual mapping T@?:BX^*^*→Y**. Another main tool is a result of Zippin's type. We show that weakly Cauchy sequences in X=C(K) can be uniformly well approximated by weakly Cauchy sequences from a certain C[0,α], α is a countable ordinal, subspace of X**.

      • High Performance Concrete as a Sustainable Material

Kynclova, Magdalena,Fiala, Ctislav,Hajek, Petr Sustainable Building Research Center 2011 International journal of sustainable building tech Vol.2 No.1

Concrete is after water the second mostly used material and the most widely used construction material in the world. The production of cement creates more than 7% (calculated from WBCSD data) [7] of worldwide man-made $CO_2$ emissions. Therefore optimization of concrete structures can lead to the significant environmental savings. Experimental investigation and case studies performed by authors in the frame of long term research, focused on environmental optimization of building structures, support the expectation that it will be possible to reach factor 3 or even more through utilization of high performance concrete (HPC) while keeping structural reliability on the needed high level. Developed structural concepts have been proved not only by theoretical and experimental results, but also by practical application in construction of several buildings. Paper presents three case studies - ribbed / waffle floor structure with minimized thickness of upper deck to 30 mm, light precast RC balcony element and light precast RC frame for passive house.
