      • The Treaty of San Francisco and the Fate of Overseas Koreans

2018 Journal of Migration and Social Integration (JMSI) Vol.3 No.2

The paper deals with the history of Sakhalin Koreans, the problem of their citizen status. The main role in it was played by San-Francisco Peace Treaty, which Japan signed in 1951. In consequence of the Treaty Sakhalin Koreans lost the status of Japanese citizens, but, unlike of other residents of ex-Japanese Empire, they didn’t get any other one. They should pass a long way to integrate into Soviet/Russian society and resolve a problem with their citizenship.

2017 Journal of Siberian and Far Eastern Studies Vol.17 No.1

This paper deals with the reasons for the formation of Korean social organizations in Sakhalin and their activities from 1989 to 2015. The main problem which the social movement should resolve was the repatriation of Sakhalin Koreans after Second World War, unfulfilled due to some geopolitical reasons. Sakhalin Koreans had to go through many problems: separation of families, tragedies, difficulties in lives and adaptation after Perestroika. Reasonably, they had put the question of their rights.
