Korea's construction industry has attained exterior growth. It currently faces much competition, however, due to the country's economic woes and investment in construction through IMF at the end of 1997, the changes in the country's related policies and systems, the reduced number of construction projects, and the recession in the construction industry. Due to these changes in Korea's construction market, 145 subcontractors (whose work is based on the subcontracts they are able to obtain from general contractors) have gone bankrupt this year, a 74.7% increase compared to the 83 subcontractors who went bankrupt in the same period last year. This study looks into what caused such subcontractors to go bankrupt, such as their assumed inability to predict the future scenarios of their companies. It also constructs a model that can be used by a construction company in assessing its own management ability and performance, such as integrating a balanced score card with system dynamics, to support decision-making.

The construction of a building involves multiple professional fields, due to the current trends of buildings being large and having multiple functions. For this reason, the importance of collaboration between the professional fields has been growing. However, the current design process in Korea does not have an adequate decision-making system, nor does it foster close collaborative relationships between professionals in different fields. As a consequence, flaws and mistakes can often be found in the final building. This paper derives elements of the work, which consist of each part of a building, and the professional fields related to each element of work, in order to minimize the problems, including design errors, that can occur due to a lack of communication between the professionals from multiple fields involved in the construction of a building. This paper presents a collaborative design management method that can be applied among web-based professional fields through the support for decision-making and sharing of design information, by conducting a study on the methodology of the participation of several professionals in designing each part of the building, and proposing a web-based design management plan.

This study aims to identify the kinds and quantity of conflicts arising during the initial construction phase when conflicts occur the most with the greatest impact. Arbitration data from Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and cases of lawsuits filed with the Supreme Court were analyzed. Previous researches conducted by Project Management Institute and the research methodology of Pareto Analysis were used. Causes for conflicts by stage were surveyed and examined, and an effective method for addressing and managing conflicts for project managers were proposed.

A renovation project of apartment housing is generally divided into four stages: Project inquiry stage, planning and feasibility stage, design stage and construction stage. Currently, procedure and managerial technique for a remodeling project has not been systematically established so that many companies have difficulty in doing their business. In particular, the insufficient construction work caused by lack of ability to efficiently utilize obtained information. As the consequence, utilization information in the construction stage is so important that it should be carefully managed and composite understanding of the process to be executed. To do this, we should provide roles and responsibility of each participant in the construction stage and analyze the process where information is utilized in renovation process and building elementals. The information is analyzed in terms of input, tool and output.
