The operation of express train on the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Network is centered on the Kyungbu and Kyungin lines and the short section between Dongducheon station and Ganyung station which is 20.7㎞ long. It is true that the needs of many customers who want to reduce their commuting hours by express train is not satisfied. This paper proposes that the operation of express trains be enlarged to Sungbuk station on Kyungwon line which comes to 34.9 ㎞ long, and to Yangsu station from Youngsan station on Jungang line. The type of operation is mixed one with high and low speed trains, which operates express train by use of existing siding tracks without improving facilities such as extra building of sidings. This pragmatic study is to apply the goal of reducing running time as express train and to suggest the selection of appropriate stops, effectiveness analysis of express train operation and formation of train diagrams to actual operation.

Suin line is expected to be opened completely in 2015 by three stages. And the line between Suwon and Incheon(54.0㎞) is under construction to supply the users of southwestern area transportation convenience. The route of Suin line will be constructed to share partly with Ansan line and connect directly with Bundang line to the east and Kyeongin line to the west. That's why a lot of difficulty in train and rolling stock operation is expected. This paper proposes an alternative plan of train operation when the line is opened partly and completely and makes an optimally alternative plan through the analyses of transportation demand, the change of human resources of operation sector according to train operation plan by an alternative proposal and operation cost.

Railway system is consisted of resources such as rail-line, signalling system, and railcars. It is necessary to efficiently utilize these limited and expensive resources as much as possible up to given line capacity. So far, we treat the line capacity as the criteria for evaluating investment alternatives or for restricting train frequencies, and this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that changes dynamically according to operational conditions, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. In this paper, we present systematic line capacity analysis model. The proposed model has three main components ; TPS(tain performance simulator), PES(parameter evaluation simulator), LCS(line capacity simulator).
