특집논문 : 호남학연구의 성과와 전망: 역사 및 사회 분야

역사와 사회 영역에서 지난 50년간의 호남학연구의 성과를 검토하는 작업은 호남이란 공간 속에서 이루어진 공동체 구성원의 다양한 실천 활동에 대한 역사적ㆍ사회적 의미를 검토하는 일이다. 역사학의 영역에서는 시간적 추이와 맥락에 관해 주목하면서, 호남적인 정체성 즉 호남인의 정신과 감성을 규명한 글을 살펴보았다. 아울러 사회 분야에서는 호남 문화의 경험적 또는 구조적 특질을 여실히 드러내 주고 있는 중요한 연구 성과들을 검토했다. “향토애”로 표현되는 지역에 대한 정확하고 자세한 이해는 지금 이곳에 살고 있는 공동체 구성원에게 자긍심을 제공하는 방안이 된다. 본고에서는 『호남문화연구』, 『감성연구』그리고 인문한국사업단이 발행한 감성총서를 바탕으로 역사학과 사회과학 분야의 호남학 연구 성과를 검토했다. 특히 개별적인 사례 중심보다는 호남학과 연동된 연구 성과물에 주목했다. 이를 통해 볼 때, 호남문화연구로 대표되는 호남학 연구의 성과는 중앙과 연계된 정치사의 영역을 넘어서 성장하고 삶을 영위하고 있는 공간을 다루기 있기 때문에 생생한 현장감을 부여하는데 기여해 왔다. 향후 이 분야 연구 영역에서는 장기간의 연속성이 강조되면서도 동시에 각기 분리되고 고립된 것처럼 보이는 사건과 인물의 활동을 서로 연결시켜 그 의미를 새롭게 이해하는 것이 중요한 방안이 된다. 따라서 단순히 행정적, 지리적 경계로 나누어지는 구역이 아니라 정치, 경제 사회문화적 요소의 상호 작용이 일상적으로 일어나는 생활영역임에 주목해야 한다. 그리고 1960년 이후 축적된 호남문화연구 의성과를 바탕으로 “호남문화론”에 관한 이해의 폭을 본격적으로 확장해야 할 필요가 있다. It can be said that reviewing the achievement of Honam Studies for the last fifty years in history and social field is to examine historical and social significance of various practical activities of the community members in the space called Honam. In the field of history, the study reviewed the writings which look into the sprit and emotion of Honam people as the identification of Honam, paying attention to the temporal trends and context. And in the field of society, the study reviewed the significant results which apparently show empirical and structural characteristics of Honam culture. Exact and detailed understanding of one`s community expressed as “local patriotism” is a way to provide its members with self-esteem. Based on 『Honam Munhwa Yongu』, 『Gamsung Yongu』, and Gamsung Chongseo published by HK Project, the study reviewed the outcome of the researches on Honam Studies in history and social science field. Especially, what is noticed is the research achievement related to Honam Studies rather than any individual case. The review showed that the achievement of Honam Studies represented as 『Honam Munhwa Yongu』has contributed to adding vivid sense of realism as that dealt with the space where we grow and lead a life beyond the area of political history related to the Center. In this field, it would be a key for follow-up researches to connect events emphasizing the long-term continuity and looking divided and isolated at the same time with the activities of a figure to newly understand the significance. Thus, we should note that an area is not the space divided by a simple administrative and geographical boundary, but a daily living area having interaction of political, economic, and socio-cultural elements. In addition, understanding of “Honam culturism” should be actively expanded based on the achievement of 『Honam Munhwa Yongu』 accumulated for a long time since 1960.
