21세기에 들어 환경에 대한 높은 관심은 환경오염에 영향을 미치는 플라스틱 대체 소재나 에너지 효율이 높은 소재의 개발 등 기존 소재들의 단점을 보완하는 연구들을 통한 실내마감재 개발의 중요성이 대두되고 있다. 실내에서 보내는 시간이 점차 늘고 있고 실내 환경에 대한 중요성 또한 증가하고 있지만 실내공간에서 사용되는 각종 건축자재 등으로부터 발산되는 오염물질로 인해 거주자들의 건강에 대한 이슈가 문제화되고 있다. 자연친화적 장점들을 가지고 있는 생태학적 소재인 한지를 활용한 실내마감재는 인체에 해롭지 않은 기능성 벽지마감재로써 환경오염을 유발하지 않는 무공해 재료이기도 하다. 본 연구에서는 친환경적 재료인 한지를 응용하여 다양한 대안의 디자인적 접근방법을 제안하고자 한다. 실내공간에 사용되는 마감재를 친환경적 요소를 고려한 유기적 디자인의 트렌드 적용방법에 대한 연구를 통하여 디자인 프로세스를 제안하고자 하였다. 한지의 전통 제작기법을 활용한 모듈, 패턴, 유기적 형태적용 등의 디자인적 요소들을 연구한 프로세스는 전통의 감성과 현대의 디자인을 융합하며 새로운 가치를 창조하는 데 의의가 있다. The importance of interior finishes is merging with an increased awareness about the natural environment in the 21st century. As a result, related researches are increasingly exposing the weaknesses of traditional materials, such as plastics which cause environmental pollution in favor of safer and more energy-efficient materials. Most of urban residents spend more time indoors in today. Therefore the importance of indoor environments is increasing. But pollutants emitted from synthetic materials often used in interior design are harmful to residents. Korean paper is usually an eco-friendly material. So, interior finishing materials made of Korean paper are very functional and do neither harm the human body nor cause environmental pollution. In this study, various design approaches are suggested which utilize eco-friendly Korean paper, we will classify interior finishes as organic and eco-friendly design elements so as to propose new ecologically-sensitive interior finish materials. We are proposing this new interior design finishing process after considerable trend analysis. Our research methodology evolves from studying the form of important design elements, such as modules, patterns and organic forms resulting from traditional Korean paper production techniques. Therefore, this design research process attempts to present the value of both traditional sensibility and contemporary design.
