NHTSA amended the occupant crash protection standard No. 208. NHTSA concluded that an average depowering of 20 to 35 percent would reduce the risk of fatalities in low speed crashes, while substantially preserving the life saving capabilities of air bags in higher speed crashes. Unbelted generic pulse sled test as Standard No. 208's unbelted (barrier) crash test requirement was adopted. In order to examine the effect of<br/> de powering in air bags, we study the relations between the depowering of an inflator and other design variables (vent hole size, bag size, fabric stiffuess) through the MADYMO simulation and the test of a DROP TEST model. The effect of depowering in an Out-of-Position is also investigated through the MADYMO simulation of the modified DROP TEST model.
